One of my favorite scriptures is also flawed and causes many to accept pain unnecessarily ...
1 Corinthians 13
The Way of Love
Love never gives up.
Love cares more for others than for self.
Love doesn't want what it doesn't have.
Love doesn't strut,
Doesn't have a swelled head,
Doesn't force itself on others,
Isn't always "me first,"
Doesn't fly off the handle,
Doesn't keep score of the sins of others,
Doesn't revel when others grovel,
Takes pleasure in the flowering of truth,
Puts up with anything,
Trusts God always,
Always ...
Excuse me?? True love puts up with anything ... REALLY?? Ah, so that's why so many Christian women stay. Because the Bible told them so. Sorry Apostle, gotta call you out on this one ...
I like your little soliloquy you had going on there, but you've just reinforced what I've a thousand times before ... the Bible is for the weak.
Here is what's in my KJV21 Version [21st Century] ...
The Gospel According to Craig 3: 16
The Real Way of Love
"Not accepting abuse is loving.
Not taking offense at unkind words is loving, as well as not striking back.
This part of love also means not accepting other people’s expectations, judgements, criticisms, and demands of us, except for those parts which we can use to help our own well-being, if we accept them by free choice.
Making loving choices means not cooperating with other people’s attempts to hurt us. Because when we cooperate in helping someone hurt us, we also play a part in helping them to hurt themselves."
Hey, I love Paul's style of writing as much as the next guy [well, let me not get carried away], but take my advice ladies. If you allow men [or women] to treat you this way from the start, you'll end up in a very abusive relationship or shooting him dead. Either way, it won't end in the fairy tale, Christian way you intended. So, my advice ... understand that the Bible was written by some archaic men who thought they were hearing the voice of God speaking to them. Be a free thinker and don't take that book so literally. It has many flaws and this is just ONE of many.
That being said, I'll leave you with this absolute gem from the angelic pen of the good Apostle ...
" ... hope unswervingly, love extravagantly." And I second that.
