Newt Gingrich, the failed Republican Speaker of the House from more than a decade ago, is trying to elevate himself from obscurity and find an audience with religious extremists and teabaggers by using outright lies, fear tactics and racism. During last weekends Values Voter Summit, a religious conservative meeting, Gingrich implied that Supreme Court justices and American judges are trying to implement Islamic sharia law in the United States, which is a preposterous claim.
Newt’s inflammatory and false claims come on the heels of his recent endorsement of the theory that President Barack Obama’s political philosophy is rooted in a “Kenyan, anti-colonial” worldview, which is outright racism. It’s also part of a bigger plan to give credibility to the birthers and those who continue to try and paint President Obama as an outsider, un-American and an undercover Muslim hellbent on destroying our nation from within. In other words, it’s hogwash.
MSNBC’s Chris Matthews on Monday decided to play Hardball with Gingrich and the veteran political commentator didn’t hold anything back.
