Chicago Premier of “Waiting for Superman” Hones Focus on Education Reform (260 hits)

The recent premier of the acclaimed “Waiting for Superman” documentary from Oscar®-winning filmmaker Davis Guggenheim brings the focus of education reform to the real options that exist for our schools, students and administrations while focusing on the startling statistics that prove that action for education reform is not only needed, but the responsibility of the whole country.

According to the United Way of Metropolitan Chicago,”the film officially opens in Chicago on October 1. Already a groundswell of support is underway, with thousands in Chicago pledging to see the film. Check out some of the recent press Huffington Post, CNN International, The Wall Street Journal, MTV, TIME, and USA Today.”

“Waiting for Superman” was released in 2009 at the Sundance Film Festival and caused an immediate sensation with its hard focus on statistics like “In Chicago, nearly half of teens do not graduate from high school. The statistics are worse for black males—a 44% graduation rate.” It brought focus to a problem that many were aware of, but did not have the details to initiate action.

“The Providence Effect” has the same goal as “Waiting for Superman.” We know how stagnant our education development has become, how our students are being failed by school systems as well as their communities. The long term effects of this education backslide have been noted in films like “The Providence Effect” and “Waiting for Superman”, by the White House and it’s refocus on education reform, and by celebrities like John Legend.

The bottom line theme is that action, not rhetoric or more conversation, is the only path to results. Join The Providence Effect Movement as we bring together educators, students, parents, administrators and members of the community together to change our education system from the inside out.
