Obama urges nation not to fear future

Obama urges nation not to fear future

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. · Wednesday, January 13th 2016 at 7:45AM · 1791 views
President Obama tried to use his final State of the Union address Tuesday to calm Americans’ economic and national security anxieties, tout his record and rebuke Republican presidential hopefuls for the vitriolic tone of their campaigns to replace him.

“And then, as frustration [with politics] grows, there will be voices urging us to fall back into our respective tribes, to scapegoat fellow citizens who don’t look like us, or pray like us, or vote like we do, or share the same background,” Obama said, in one of many not-so-subtle references to GOP front-runner Donald Trump. “We can’t afford to go down that path. It won’t deliver the economy we want or the security we want, but most of all, it contradicts everything that makes us the envy of the world.”

The president — his hair now flecked with gray — was greeted with cheers of “O-bama!” from enthusiastic Democrats but mostly stony silence from Republicans. They laughed louder at his allusion to many members’ eagerness to resume campaigning for president in Iowa than at his joke about how even as the United States has cut carbon emissions, “gas under two bucks a gallon ain’t bad, either.”

“We live in a time of extraordinary change — change that’s reshaping the way we live, the way we work, our planet and our place in the world,” said Obama, standing before Vice President Biden and House Speaker Paul D. Ryan. “It’s change that can broaden opportunity or widen inequality. And whether we like it or not, the pace of this change will only accelerate.”

All Obama is doing is the pot calling the kettle black.

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Wednesday, January 13th 2016 at 11:33AM

What is Steven doing? are you confirming that the kettle is black?

Steve Williams Wednesday, January 13th 2016 at 12:36PM

Obama is as divisive as any politician in this country today. I've been getting his emails for years.

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Wednesday, January 13th 2016 at 12:53PM

That is great Steven, where is the divisiveness?

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Wednesday, January 13th 2016 at 1:08PM

That is great Steven, where is the divisiveness?

This is the path the Donald wants to take this great nation. Fear the Mexicans and make them build a wall. Fear the Syrians for they maybe terrorist. Fear the Muslims until we figure it out. All I see from the Donald is that he is a merchant of fear.

We have been down that road Steven, remember McCarthyism?

Joseph McCarthy (1908-1957) gave his name to one of the most destructive and controversial pathologies in U.S. political history. “McCarthyism” has become synonymous with reckless opportunism, cruel and baseless accusation, and bullying coercion. The way in which the word is used has changed since McCarthy’s brief strut on the national stage, but it is still one of the dirtiest words in the American political lexicon.

Steve Williams Wednesday, January 13th 2016 at 1:47PM

Who's talking about Trump? I'll rephrase. Obama is THE MOST divisive politician in the country today. He cares nothing about governance of the People, only the perpetuation of the Democratic Party. His last year in office will be devoted solely to that cause, and he's got the bully pulpit now doesn't he Ron?

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Wednesday, January 13th 2016 at 3:02PM

That my friend is the way of politics.

Steve Williams Wednesday, January 13th 2016 at 3:31PM

That's fine Ron. That's why Trump will be our next President.

Steve Williams Wednesday, January 13th 2016 at 3:32PM

Just like Reagan schlonged Carter.

Steve Williams Wednesday, January 13th 2016 at 6:02PM

Obama is campaigning at the University of Nebraaka this afternoon.

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Wednesday, January 13th 2016 at 6:11PM

The Republican Party leadership don't want Trump as he paddles fear for his clime to stay in front.

Steve Williams Wednesday, January 13th 2016 at 6:48PM

Where did you hear that?

Steve Williams Wednesday, January 13th 2016 at 7:02PM

Calling Trump a “varsity” candidate, Priebus predicted in advance of this week’s meeting of the 168 members of the RNC that Trump would acquit himself well in a general-election matchup, maintaining that Trump has been a positive force within the GOP primary. “I think that we’ve got sort of the varsity team of candidates out there,” Priebus said of the 12-person field, adding that the entertainment value has increased the party’s visibility. “I think any one of our candidates can plug into what we’re building and win a cultural vote in this country.”

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Wednesday, January 13th 2016 at 7:33PM

I agree with Priebus when he said of the 12-person field, adding that the entertainment value has increased the party’s visibility.

I like to highlight "THE ENTERTAINMENT VALUE," of the clown car that these candidates are driving up in. None of those clowns has a plan to help the middle classes in this country, none of them period.

Steve Williams Wednesday, January 13th 2016 at 9:30PM

So is it true "The Republican Party leadership don't want Trump as he paddles fear for his clime to stay in front"?

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Wednesday, January 13th 2016 at 10:18PM

You can see it as reports come out as we get closer to the primaries.

What trumps supports are asking him to dump the rich in this country and help the middle classes, that won't happen.

Steve Williams Wednesday, January 13th 2016 at 10:46PM

Won't be long and we'll have actual facts from Iowa and NH.

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Wednesday, January 13th 2016 at 10:55PM

Until then..

Steve Williams Thursday, January 14th 2016 at 9:30AM

The mujahideen have struck again, in Jakarta.

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Thursday, January 14th 2016 at 11:27AM

That is what the far right wing of the conservative party of The mujahideen do.

Steven' you are not trying to gin up fear in this country are you?

Keep in mind that Obama urges nation not to fear future.

Steve Williams Thursday, January 14th 2016 at 12:16PM

So we should call them "the-far-right-wing-of-the-conservative-party-of-the-mujahideen"? That's quite a mouthful Ron. Now, who the hell is Obama to tell what to fear or not to fear??!!

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Thursday, January 14th 2016 at 1:17PM

President Obama is the leader of the free world and don't you forget that, do you understand me?

Steve Williams Thursday, January 14th 2016 at 3:15PM

President Obama is just any old politician. If you want himto tell you what to fear Ron, have at it,

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Thursday, January 14th 2016 at 3:27PM

Respect The power of the Oval Office.

Steve Williams Thursday, January 14th 2016 at 3:33PM

You don'n even get his emails do you?

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Thursday, January 14th 2016 at 5:14PM

Now what do this have to do with having respect for The Oval Office? since you don't want to talk about President Obama's last SOTUA.

Steve Williams Thursday, January 14th 2016 at 6:51PM

I didn't think so.

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Thursday, January 14th 2016 at 9:32PM

It has nothing to do with respect for The Oval Office. Not a thing.

Steve Williams Friday, January 15th 2016 at 6:12AM

To respect the office I need to not fear? How does that work Ron?

Steve Williams Friday, January 15th 2016 at 6:16AM

And respect works both ways. President Obama doesn't respect the American people. If you'd been reading his emails for the last 6 years like I have, you'd know that.

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Friday, January 15th 2016 at 7:58AM

What makes you fear when it come to this president Steven?

You don't have to fear that Obama is coming for your guns because he is not. So, what is in the his E=mails that makes to afraid.

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Friday, January 15th 2016 at 8:33AM

What makes you fear when it come to this president Steven?

Remember what kind of tail spin after republican BUSH and all of his plan to run the country was in office. The rich corporations and the banks stole trillions and the people had to bail them out? The fat cat of tax breaks, saying that they are the job creator, all the while the unemployment rate was at 10%, was you afraid then?

"Let us make him a one term President" This was from the Republican Leadership the same night the people of the United States voiced there choice for President. The Republican powers came together to work against the people of the Untied States. Do you remember that? Did you had hope that this would happen? was you afraid then?

Now! You going to tell me that you are afraid of some E-mails by the President please!

Steve Williams Friday, January 15th 2016 at 12:11PM

Ron,

I'll leave aside the issue of Bush's and Obama's accomplishments for the moment. I don't fear guns being taken away because I am the NRA as they say. I do fear ISIS. I do fear Obama and the Democrats because they are dividers. That's what I see in Obama's emails, and those I get from the DNC now that he gave them my name.

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Friday, January 15th 2016 at 12:40PM

I know that you want to put the ACCOMPLISHMENTS of President Obama aside, to promote this fear thing because this is all you got, some made up boogie man of yours. Show me your proof of these E-mails, Steven, so we can be scared together.

Steve Williams Friday, January 15th 2016 at 2:04PM

Stephen --

Last night, I gave my final State of the Union address. As I was preparing it, I couldn't help but think of the road we've traveled together these last seven years -- and the remarkable things you've done to make change happen.

The people I've met and the stories you've shared -- that's what keeps me going. And it's why I'm more optimistic about the year ahead than I've ever been.

What makes America great has always been our capacity to change for the better. Our ability to come together as one American family, and keep perfecting our union. It's hard to see sometimes in the day-to-day noise of Washington, but that's who we are.

OFA is one of the groups that's going to keep fighting for change on the most important issues -- say you'll join the fight.

Since I took office seven years ago in the midst of crisis, we've made remarkable progress together: millions more Americans with health insurance, a global agreement to tackle climate change, unprecedented private-sector job growth, historic victories for equality across the country.

But in the year ahead, I want to focus on the big things that will guarantee an even stronger, more prosperous America for our kids. Those three words that start our Constitution -- "We the People" -- insist that we rise and fall together. We make choices together that move our country forward. We don't have to agree on everything, but change only happens when people participate.

It all starts with getting involved in the work of civic engagement. In the America we believe in, we create the kind of change we seek. However slow, however harshly challenged at each point, we know we can do it.

I hope you'll join OFA, and commit to continuing this work:

Thanks,

Barack Obama

Steve Williams Friday, January 15th 2016 at 2:08PM

P.S, Rom, note the spelling of my name.

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Friday, January 15th 2016 at 7:07PM

And, is that something to fear.

Steve Williams Friday, January 15th 2016 at 7:39PM

The latest email I got from the DNC is typical. They want me to wish Michelle Obama happy birthday. They could care less about her birthday except to find out whether I'm "on board" or not.

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Saturday, January 16th 2016 at 11:56AM

Is that something to fear for the future about? Sound's like you have a serious case of paranoia. If it is, cancel your prescription Steven and check attitude and leave it at the door. Problem solved.

Steve Williams Saturday, January 16th 2016 at 12:54PM

I never asked to be put on their mailing lists. I got on Obama's when I started to register there in 2010 but I quickly backed out because it smelled fishy. Obama then gave my name to the DNC, again without asking me. As you know from the controversy, Hillary and Bernie both have access to it now. Ron, the use of social media for political manipulation is unprecedented. Obama was the first to harness its power, and from what I've seen in the 6 years I've been on his list it doesn't bode well for the governance of our country. That's what I fear.

Steve Williams Saturday, January 16th 2016 at 6:21PM

The Mujahideen attacked again. Burkina Faso.

Steve Williams Monday, January 18th 2016 at 9:36PM

Did Trump misquote 2 Corinthians 3:17 today?

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Monday, January 18th 2016 at 10:27PM

Yes he did: Trump allegedly misquotes Bible, media pounce http://www.wnd.com/2016/01/trump-misquotes...

Donald Trump courts evangelicals, misquotes Bible http://www.cnn.com/videos/us/2016/01/19/tr...

Steve Williams Tuesday, January 19th 2016 at 6:46AM

I was asking because I've been in many a church and in my experience it's not uncommon to hear "two Corinthians" instead of "second Cornthians". That's what some people are making an issue of, not the verse itself. What's your experience Ron?

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Tuesday, January 19th 2016 at 9:21AM

Any one who says two "two Corinthians" instead of "second Corinthians" is an ERROR.

Steve Williams Tuesday, January 19th 2016 at 9:36AM

Why?

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Tuesday, January 19th 2016 at 10:06AM

Improper Religious Tradition.

Steve Williams Tuesday, January 19th 2016 at 12:13PM

The proper religious tradition is " the second letter of Paul to the Corinthians". What's the proper religious tradition for how to say 4 Maccabees?

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Tuesday, January 19th 2016 at 3:05PM

4 Maccabees This book is not apart of The Holy Bible (KJV)

Steve Williams Tuesday, January 19th 2016 at 3:57PM

It's part of the Holy Bible (RSV).

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Tuesday, January 19th 2016 at 4:34PM

AH!!!! Steven,

Trump was busted for misquoting The Book of "Second Corinthians in The Holy Bible (KJV).

Steve Williams Tuesday, January 19th 2016 at 4:40PM

He quoted it exactly, just as it's written. 2. Two.

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Tuesday, January 19th 2016 at 4:44PM

OK!!! AND He got laughed at too by biblical students for that quote too!!!! And I told you why as well.

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Tuesday, January 19th 2016 at 4:44PM

OK!!! AND He got laughed at too by biblical students for that quote too!!!! And I told you why as well.

Steve Williams Tuesday, January 19th 2016 at 5:01PM

In the United Kingdom, British subjects often refer to these letters from the apostle Paul as “One Corinthians” and “Two Corinthians.”

As you've heard Ron, Donald's mother is from Scotland.

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Tuesday, January 19th 2016 at 5:47PM

Thanks for link, I will check it out. Steve, do you understand why Trump got laugh at while addressing biblical students in training?

Steve Williams Tuesday, January 19th 2016 at 7:22PM

I didn't hear laughter. I'll watch again and see what I missed.

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Tuesday, January 19th 2016 at 7:44PM

Steve, go to my CNN link and you will hear what the students did when he said that. Eye witness account.

Steve Williams Tuesday, January 19th 2016 at 7:54PM

I did hear some laughter then the applause. So what does it mean Ron? Probably some kids attending a religious school, convinced they know all about religion, who never were members of a Presbyterian church with a Scotsman for pastor, as I was.

Steve Williams Tuesday, January 19th 2016 at 7:57PM

I was a member that is, not a pastor.

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Tuesday, January 19th 2016 at 8:13PM

Did you hear what the reporter said what happened when trump misspoke?

Steve Williams Tuesday, January 19th 2016 at 8:58PM

Trump didn't misspeak. He said "two" just like my pastor always said.

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Tuesday, January 19th 2016 at 11:44PM

Buzzfeed: Donald Trump knows the Bible so well he misquotes it at Christian university
Jezebel: A good Christian could never vote for Donald Trump, who just pronounced it ‘Two Corinthians’
Mashable: Donald Trump flubs Bible verse during speech at Christian university
New York Times: Donald Trump quotes Scripture, sort of, at Liberty University speech
Politico: Trump bungles Bible reference at Liberty University
AOL: Trump flubs Bible verse during rally at Christian school

Steven, take your head out of the sands. You boy was busted for miss speaking about the bible which he know very little or nothing about. Deal with the FACTS and live with the true. He also feels that he do no wrong and he don't need to ask for forgiveness.

WOW!!!

Steve Williams Wednesday, January 20th 2016 at 7:56AM

Trump quoted the verse that is Liberty University's motto, displayed on campus. What you are saying Ron is that Trump, my former pastor, myself when I was a former Christian, all British Christians, and any others who choose to pronounce '2' as 'two', are the wrong type of 'Christian'. It's okay Ron, you Cristians have been making those kind of jidgements for centuries. Ina an earlier age you could have just burned Trump at the stake and been done with it.

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Wednesday, January 20th 2016 at 9:20AM

NO STEVEN, don't put words in my mouth because that is what the hypocrite and the heathens do, please you don't have to do that Steven.

What Trump did I have shown you the proof. I would be a fool to talk about anyone else.

Steve Williams Wednesday, January 20th 2016 at 9:41AM

My initial question wasn't a request for media links Ron, I was asking you as a Christian, and honestly I was surprised by your reply. I thought you'd agree with me that a bible quotation shouldn't be judged by the pronunciation of its title, but by the content of its character.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=mC6KnhGTynU

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Wednesday, January 20th 2016 at 1:56PM

Shame on you Steven, that link does not address this question of judging the pronunciation of its title,or the content of its character of Donald Trumps blasting and what some are calling it a misquote, that is keeping it clean Steven.

Please, take your head out of the sand because the only people the Donald is going to help is people with millions or billions of dollars and all he is looking for at this stage are more weak minded people to help him.

Now the white superprimist are help him. You stand for that?

Steve Williams Wednesday, January 20th 2016 at 4:18PM

Apostate that I am Ron, I'm in full agreement with Donald Trump, Jerry Falwell Jr., the student body of Liberty University, and Christians throughout the world and the centuries, that this is a verse worth heeding. In my case it means nothing, who first said it, who has repeated it, how they refer to it, or for what reason.

Two Corinthians 3:17

"Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty."

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Wednesday, January 20th 2016 at 6:26PM

So, be it!!!
