‘And what is Aleppo?’ lands Gary Johnson in hot water
By Philip Bump September 8 at 7:36 PM

Libertarian Party candidate Gary Johnson’s long-shot bid for the presidency probably got a bit longer Thursday morning when he badly flubbed one of his infrequent moments in the national media spotlight by appearing unaware of Aleppo, the Syrian city that has become an international symbol for that country’s refugee crisis.

Johnson was talking politics with the hosts of MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” when a conversation about the historical role of third-party candidates as spoilers was followed with one about foreign policy.

“What would you do, if you were elected, about Aleppo?” the show’s Mike Barnicle asked.

“About?” Johnson replied.

“Aleppo,” Barnicle repeated.

Tell me Robert, did you see these video's?

Steve Williams Friday, September 9th 2016 at 3:31PM

Tell me Ron, when did you last see news on Aleppo, before Gary Johnson's gaffe?

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Friday, September 9th 2016 at 10:47PM

YES Steven, I did and the last time Aleppo was in the news, when they showed a young five year old Omran Daqneesh captured the world's attention as this stunned boy survived the destruction of war, as he was covered with blood and dirt!!!

Children of war: One year from Alan Kurdi To Omran Daqneesh, no solution to the horrific Syrian refugee crisis

This happened in August that got world wide coverage, if one gave a D A N M. Here's more information: The stunned, bloodied face of 5-year-old Omran Daqneesh sums up the horror of Aleppo https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/worldv...

I know about Aleppo and I am not running for president. Did you see those photo?

Steve Williams Saturday, September 10th 2016 at 2:20AM

Well Ron, I can't say for sure what I was doing on August 18, but I did not see this news.

Steve Williams Saturday, September 10th 2016 at 2:42AM

You posted 8 blogs on Aug. 18 and none of them were about Aleppo. It looks like the news that day was all about Manafort and Bannon. That is the hypocrisy of the media, they obsess about the Trump campaign then blame us for not knowing what's going on in the world.

Did you hear about this for example?

“(O)ur community will have to bear the heartbreaking burden of watching the second-month anniversary of Philando’s murder become reality,” according to the rally’s event description on Facebook. “Now the stakes are higher than ever as we await the public announcement of verdict in Philando’s murder. The Ramsey County Attorney’s office has decided to announce this with a deadline of September 15th.”

However, the Ramsey County attorney’s office said it has not announced a deadline — the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension continues to investigate and has not presented the case to prosecutors to consider charges against St. Anthony police officer Jeronimo Yanez, according to the county attorney’s spokesman.

“I know many people in our community feel a sense of urgency about this situation and want it resolved as soon as possible, but putting an artificial timeline on the investigation will not do it justice,” Choi said in a letter to the community Tuesday. “I have spoken to the Superintendent of the BCA, the agency handling the investigation, and he assured me they are making this investigation a top priority. I have asked for a prompt and thorough investigation. Both of these goals are equally important to ensuring the integrity of this case.”

I agree about post 8 blogs but Aleppo and the war have never been the topic of interest here on Black In America,so why bring it up until now? Keep in mind STEVEN neither you or I have not threw our hat in the race for president, Gary Johnson did!!!

Steve Williams Saturday, September 10th 2016 at 10:26AM

Gary Johnson admitted immediately he should have known what Allepo is. What struck me was his honesty in response to Barnacle's question, which was poorly asked by the way.

Steve Williams Saturday, September 10th 2016 at 10:29AM

If it weren't so critical to stop Hillary I'd vote for him.

It is a scandal in contemporary international law, don’t forget, that while “wanton destruction of towns, cities and villages” is a war crime of long standing, the bombing of cities from airplanes goes not only unpunished but virtually unaccused. Air bombardment is state terrorism, the terrorism of the rich. It has burned up and blasted apart more innocents in the past six decades than have all the antistate terrorists who ever lived. Something has benumbed our consciousness against this reality. In the United States we would not consider for the presidency a man who had once thrown a bomb into a crowded restaurant, but we are happy to elect a man who once dropped bombs from airplanes that destroyed not only restaurants but the buildings that contained them and the neighborhoods that surrounded them. I went to Iraq after the Gulf war and saw for myself what the bombs did; “wanton destruction” is just the term for it.

– C. Douglas Lummis, political scientist

------ SINCE 8/2014; American Tax Payers have PAID for the BOMBING RAIDS of SYRIA at a Rate of 100+ per month

100 X 24 = 2,400 RAIDS and Each RAID Costs about $50,000,000+ = $120,000,000,000+/- $50,000,000 usa

------- ARE you KIDDING, that IDIOT Johnson --- WHO could not even beat any of the 17+ candidates on the Republican Side....DOES not KNOW the MOST Costly and INTENSIVE USA military OPERATION in 2016..

I, Robert Powell, ACKNOWLEDGE that compared to the GREATEST USA presidency EVER of President Baraka Hussein Obama ... all OTHER democratRepublican 2016 'hopefuls' are PITIFULLY ignorant and full of DECEIT.....

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Saturday, September 10th 2016 at 7:09PM

Robert, did you see this video yet?

robert powell Sunday, September 11th 2016 at 12:09PM

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Sunday, September 11th 2016 at 3:21PM

You should, you would see his face when asked that question? You can look in his eyes to see that he was like a dear caught in the headlights.

You need to watch the video's at the beginning of each of my blogs to get a better understanding of the topic since you have something to say on the subject.
