Fox News finished far and above its competition in the ratings for the first quarter of 2017, with the network putting up the highest-rated quarter ever in cable news history in the total day viewership measure, according to Nielsen data released Tuesday. This marks 61 consecutive quarters that Fox News has finished number one among cable news networks in total day and primetime viewership.

Troubles at Fox News were compounded yet again on Tuesday, with the emergence of new allegations of racial discrimination at the company coming less than a week after the ouster of the network’s star Bill O’Reilly.

Eleven current and former Fox News employees filed a class-action lawsuit in New York against the network, accusing it of “abhorrent, intolerable, unlawful and hostile racial discrimination.”

The material of this blog is "Fox News' problems not going away." Let's revisit the ratings in July. MSNBC is too stupid to see their opportunity. They have Gretchen van Susteren and they don't even have the sense to leverage her.

Steve Williams Sunday, April 30th 2017 at 4:19PM

If they replaced Chris Hayes with her it would be a HUGE step forward.

My apologies Greta. Greta van Susteren.

Still trying to divert the conversation away from this news breaking subject about FOX NEWS.

Eleven current and former Fox News employees filed a class-action lawsuit in New York against the network, accusing it of “abhorrent, intolerable, unlawful and hostile racial discrimination.”

This is what FOX NEWS IS FACING NOW. Fanning the flames of “abhorrent, intolerable, unlawful and hostile racial discrimination.” WOW!!!

NOW here you come sticking your head in the ground. WOW!!!

Though Hume suggested otherwise, the Carlson show will not be called On The Record, though a new name has not yet been locked. Carlson’s new gig ends talk of the network going in a less conservative direction with the exit of Roger Ailes. That chatter had continued in some industry quarters, despite comments to the contrary made by 21st Century Fox chairman Rupert Murdoch, who stepped in as Fox News interim CEO in the wake of Ailes ouster. The hire of Carson, said by sources to be a Murdoch protege, is the first big on-air move since Murdoch moved in.

Don’t expect Carlson to appear before the election, since details still are being pounded out.

Hume has been filled in as host since early September, when FNC announced Van Susteren was gone, effective immediately. At the time, FNC said Hume would fill in through the presidential election. Back then, Van Susteren took to Facebook to explain that she had take advantage of that much-discussed clause in her contract allowing her to leave and explained her hasty exit with: “The clause had a time limitation, meaning I could not wait.”

Like Van Susteren, Bill O’Reilly, Sean Hannity and Bret Baier have “key man” clauses in their contracts that allow them to leave if Fox News chief Roger Ailes departed. Which, of course, Ailes did in July, as FNC parent 21st Century Fox investigated Ailes and the network after Gretchen Carlson filed a s*xual harassment lawsuit against Ailes.

Do you know who Kelly Wright is?

Steve Williams Sunday, April 30th 2017 at 5:43PM

“Despite his outstanding performance, and because he is Black, Mr. Wright has been effectively sidelined and asked to perform the role of a ‘Jim Crow’ — the racist caricature of a Black entertainer,” the suit, filed by Wigdor LLP, alleges.

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Sunday, April 30th 2017 at 6:10PM

it appears in this video, Kelly Wright explains why he has joined the Law Suit in his own words, have you seen it yet? Stop fishing Stevie BOY, come, hear and you will hear what Kelly Wright said and their was no mention of a Black entertainer.

You will also see that this story is bigger then you think...

Steve Williams Sunday, April 30th 2017 at 6:46PM

I saw it Ron, but I will BET YOU HAVE NEVER SEEN KELLY WRIGHT BEFORE NOW.

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Sunday, April 30th 2017 at 8:10PM

If you saw this video, then why did you go all off topic, talking about FOX NEWS ratings for the first quarter of 2017?

When I open up a topic or start a blog, I don't feel I need to stop the HY-jacking and misdirecting of my topic first, that is what trolls do.

I have seen Kelly Wright, a few time before but I did not follow the only black male anchor on Fox News.

Steve Williams Sunday, April 30th 2017 at 8:21PM

He's not an anchor on Fox News, black, male, or otherwise.

Kelly Wright is an American reporter for Fox News Channel[1] and co-anchor of America's News Headquarters on Saturday, and is based in the network’s Washington, D.C., bureau. He was a co-host of Fox and Friends Weekend from July 2006 to January 2008.

Most recently[when?], Wright reported from Tampa, Florida, on the Terri Schiavo story. In 2004 Wright spent nearly three months reporting on the developments in Iraq. He was among the first reporters to cover the Abu Ghraib prison scandal and the subsequent court martial cases held in Baghdad. Wright also spent time embedded with U.S. and British troops, reporting on the military’s humanitarian efforts in Baghdad, Basrah, and Mosul. Wright also provided coverage on U.S. forces training Iraqi security forces. Additionally, he reported on the historic U.S. handover of sovereignty to Iraq. Beyond Iraq, Wright extensively covered the 2004 presidential election, including the Democratic presidential race, the New Hampshire primary, and the South Carolina primary. In October 2003, Wright reported live from the Congressional Black Caucus/FNC Democratic presidential candidate debate in Detroit.

Before joining Fox News Channel, Wright worked as an anchor/reporter at WAVY-TV/WVBT-TV in Norfolk, VA, co-anchoring the Fox affiliate's first primetime newscast (produced by WAVY) from 1998 until 2003. During his tenure there, he covered a wide range of stories, including a historical event in Benin, West Africa, where African presidents Mathieu Kérékou of Benin, Jerry Rawlings of Ghana, and representatives from the United States, England, France and the Dominican Republic apologized for their role in slavery.

Previously, Wright served as a weekend news anchor and reporter for WRAL-TV in Raleigh, N.C. Wright secured numerous rare interviews, including a 1996 exclusive interview with O. J. Simpson following the criminal court trial.

Wright has also served as a general assignment reporter for WWOR-TV in New York. He reported on numerous high-profile newsmakers and events for the station, including John Gotti, Amy Fisher, the Howard Beach and Bensonhurst murder trials, and the 1989 Central Park jogger rape case.

Wright began his journalism career in 1977 while serving in the United States Army.

Wright has received numerous awards for his reporting, including two local Emmy Awards for his developing, reporting and co-producing a documentary and news series on the transatlantic slave trade.

Wright attended Oral Roberts University (ORU). He graduated with the ORU Class of 2008, and delivered the commencement address. He is married and has two sons who still live at home.

In 2017, Wright joined a lawsuit against Fox News for Racial discrimination.[2]

As it stands, Craig Melvin is the only black anchor left. Michael Steele, who is black, is an MSNBC political analyst, appears regularly on “Morning Joe.” Joy Reid, who is black, works at the network and even has her own show, but has no contract with the network. [Update: The network says she does. The Mirror is investigating further on this…] She hosts “AM Joy”, a weekend program that airs on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. She also appears often on other shows such as “The 11th Hour” with Brian Williams, who is white.

“There’s lots of concern internally with African Americans leaving,” an industry source told The Mirror on condition of anonymity. “What in the hell is going on at the network? Joy has no contract. They’ve been working her like a dog. You will see her filling in for Lawrence O’Donnell, working her around the clock. If you’re Joy, you don’t want to say no to stuff because you want a contract, it doesn’t bode well if they’re not signing you to a new deal.”

The insider said, “Joy has complained to any number of people about it. It is frustrating for Joy who is a consummate professional. It’s been several months. What we’ve seen over the last 18 months has been a whitewash at the network. It is as if the first African American left the White House and so are the African Americans at MSNBC. I have no idea how in the hell Phil Griffin has survived considering her was the brains behind the Lean Forward campaign at MSNBC. Somehow he has risen above that and is still held in high regard at NBC and MSNBC. He should have been gone long ago, but the good old boys club knows how to protect their own.”
