White House Tells Reporters They Can’t Report On Instructions To Not Report

In one of the most bizarre press releases from the Trump White House, the administration sent a memo to reporters instructing them they wouldn’t be allowed to report on Thursday’s White House press briefing.  Further complicating the story is the fact that the memo said reporters also could not report on the instructions to not report the briefing.

Why did this guy never show the memo he was referring to?

Another small but significant change in the White House’s press access is that the daily email that goes out at night previewing the White House schedule the next day is now routinely flagged as “For Planning Purposes Only / Not Reportable.”

As BuzzFeed’s Chris Geidner recently illustrated, the Trump White House initially tagged these emails “for immediate release.” Then, they were marked “for planning purposes only.” During Trump’s first foreign trip, though, the words “not reportable” were added. Just like that, the White House had shifted from providing the information to reporters so that they could share it with their audiences, to insisting that it not be publicly disclosed.

FAKE NEWS ALERT

Wednesday, the administration announced that Thursday's* press briefing by Sarah Huckabee Sanders would be one such no-video affair, then introduced a Kafka-esque twist by declaring that the announcement itself was "NOT REPORTABLE."

The words "not reportable" have been used for the past month. They were not "introduced" last Wednesday. Just another media stunt, like CNN sending a sketch artist on Thursday. Whining and complaining, mindlessly repeated by those like yourself Ron.

Note: There are times the "NOT REPORTABLE" is acceptable, like, when WH gives press advance notice so we can plan travel.

Like, we got when Obama had a trip, too. When they're not announcing it publicly yet, but they understand press schedules need to be made.

Why don't you believe this report: "The White House Press Briefing Is Slowly Dying?" The daily appearance by the press secretary has become rarer, and moved off camera. Asked for an explanation, Steve Bannon said, “Sean got fatter.”

Steve Bannon is just one of the problems at THE White House.

You can't have it both ways Steven, you support the 2nd Amendment of the constitution and I not only support the 2nd Amendment and concerned that all Americans have the right to bare arms. I also support the 1st Amendment that Congress (or THE White House) shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. - The First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

if you want to live in a country without the 1st Amendment to the Constitution of The United State of America, Steven, move to Russia.

Steve Williams Sunday, June 25th 2017 at 10:42AM

I support the First Amendment AS WRITTEN. It does NOT say "(or the White House)". White House press briefings have NOTHING to do with the First Amendment.

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Sunday, June 25th 2017 at 11:02AM

The Constitution of The United State of America also means The White House, The Executive Branch of the Government, which the founding fathers made previsions to balance all three branches of the government for the people. I am reminded of this Steven, Specifically, in this speech on January 26, 1830, before the United States Senate, "made for the people, made by the people, and answerable to the people", foreshadowing Lincoln's "government of the people, by the people, for the people".

You said: I support the First Amendment AS WRITTEN. It does NOT say "(or the White House)". Question: is The White House a part of The United States Government?

Steve Williams Sunday, June 25th 2017 at 11:29AM

The Congress is the Legislative Branch of the United States government and the First Amendment applies only to Congress. The Second Amendment does not refer to any specific branch so it refers to the United States government as a whole.

Steve Williams Sunday, June 25th 2017 at 11:34AM

The First Amendment says "shall make no law..." There is only one branch of the United States government that has the power to make law.

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Sunday, June 25th 2017 at 11:52AM

The question was is The White House a part of The United States Government?

Steve Williams Sunday, June 25th 2017 at 12:45PM

Same answer I gave you on your other blog. I said of course.

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Sunday, June 25th 2017 at 1:21PM

I are telling me about the The Congress is the Legislative Branch of the United States government. I asked you a question was is The White House a part of The United States Government?

Not if you don't, yes so.

Steve Williams Sunday, June 25th 2017 at 3:59PM

For the FOURTH time Ron, I said "of course".

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Sunday, June 25th 2017 at 6:22PM

Then the constitution governs all of this breaches, including The Executive Branch.
