Who was Shirley Chisholm? Brothers and Sisters Shirley Chisholm first-generation American born to immigrant parents from the Caribbean. lived in New York, got her degrees in elementary. She became involved as an authoritative figure, regarding early education and childhood welfare. She also was involved locally in chapters of The League of Women Voters, The National Association for The Advancement of Colored People (NAACP,) The urban League as well as a The Democratic Party Club in Bedford-Stuyvesant Brooklyn.

In 1968, Shirley Chisholm, took a chance and became the first African American woman in Congress and during and in those seven years of holding her sent, she advocated for women and minorities during her seven terms in The US House of Representatives. Shirley Chisholm was very determined about equality for women and Black People, she make history by being the first black women in Congress, she also ran for president in 1872 and was the first Black American to do so.
