Obama, in an interview that comes after his latest memoir, "A Promised Land," was published in late 2020, said he never thought some of the "dark spirits" that began rising within the Republican Party during his tenure would get this dark and reach the epicenter of the party.
"We have to worry," Obama said, "when one of our major political parties is willing to embrace a way of thinking about our democracy that would be unrecognizable and unacceptable even five years ago or a decade ago."
The clearest example of this, Obama said, was the January 6 insurrection and how there are now "large portions of an elected Congress going along with the falsehood that there were problems with the election." The insurrection at the US Capitol by Trump supporters came on the same day that 147 Republican lawmakers voted not to certify Joe Biden's electoral victory in key states. The falsehood that the 2020 presidential election was stolen has been pushed by former President Donald Trump himself, who has since cheered on baseless Republican audits of elections.

Steve, The question was asked to Former President Obama was this during that time frame you are talking about: “You write we need to explain to each other who we are and where we’re going. As somebody who has dedicated myself to story telling that resonates with me. Are we as a country still willing to listen to each other’s stories?
This is the biggest challenge is, that we don’t have the kinds of shared stories we used to. There has always been a division alone race. We have 400 years of White and Black not being able to have share experience because of Slavery and segregation and so forth but within the community, the stories of kids growing up in Manhattan and the stories of Kids grows up in Abilene, Texas and the stories of the kid who is growing in Montana, Those stories no longer meet, partly because of the segment, THE SILOING OF THE MEDIA, the internet, entertainment. We occupy different worlds and it because much more difficult for us to hear each other, see each other.
Now Steve, what is wrong with this statement Obama shared with us about the republicans?

Ron, I listened carefully to this video more than a couple times, probably 4 or 5 times. You are the one distracting from my considered opinion about what President Obama said. "Media silos" is a good metaphor for the President's inner struggle to be a better person than he is.

That is not the question in a National Election, Steve. I believe a unified conclusion for the rights of all people both Black and White people have the right to vote without restrictions.
