Merrick Garland just called Donald Trump’s bluff Chris Cillizza Analysis by Chris Cillizza, For the last 72 hours, since the FBI conducted a search of Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home, the former President has spouted any number of claims about what happened and why. He’s said that Democrats led the search (they didn’t) and raised the possibility that FBI agents might have planted evidence, without providing any proof of the allegation. On Thursday, Attorney General Merrick Garland struck back – albeit in the limited way available to him as the head of the Justice Department still actively investigating the possibility that Trump took classified documents out of the White House and had them stored at his mansion in Florida. Garland announced that he had asked a judge to unseal both the search warrant justifying Monday’s search as well as the receipt of what was taken. Trump just called Garlands bluff, told him to go ahead and unseal the warrant. Garland's got nothing but a big fat nothing-burger.
"Not only will I not oppose the release of documents related to the unAmerican, unwarranted, and unnecessary raid and break-in of my home in Palm Beach, Florida, Mar-a-Lago, I am going a step further by ENCOURAGING the immediate release of those documents, even though they have been drawn up by radical left Democrats and possible future political opponents, who have a strong and powerful vested interest in attacking me, much as they have done for the last 6 years…"

Why wouldn’t the FBI allow the inspection of areas at Mar-a-Lago with our lawyer’s, or others, present. Made them wait outside in the heat, wouldn’t let them get even close - said “ABSOLUTELY NOT.” Planting information anyone? Reminds me of a Christofer Steele Dossier!

Ron, Trump didn't ignore the subpoena. The documents were all declassified, by a standing order of President Trump, in compliance with Executive Orders signed by George W. Bush and Barack Obama.

Number one, it was all declassified. Number two, they didn’t need to “seize” anything. They could have had it anytime they wanted without playing politics and breaking into Mar-a-Lago. It was in secured storage, with an additional lock put on as per their request...
…They could have had it anytime they wanted—and that includes LONG ago. ALL THEY HAD TO DO WAS ASK. The bigger problem is, what are they going to do with the 33 million pages of documents, many of which are classified, that President Obama took to Chicago?

It's true that Obama White House records made their way to Chicago at the end of his second term. But the process of transferring the documents was done in cooperation with the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA), which legally owns those records under the Presidential Records Act.
The 1978 law declares presidential and vice-presidential records property of the federal government, with the NARA responsible for the "custody, control and preservation" of the materials once a presidential administration ends.
Rather than store the Obama records in a physical presidential library owned by the NARA as many of his predecessors have done, the Obama Foundation worked with the agency to digitize unclassified records.
Touted as a "new partnership for the digital age," the digitization process was outlined in an agreement between the National Archives and the Obama Foundation.
"The Parties agree that the Digitization Project will at all times be performed in accordance with the requirements of the Presidential Records Act (PRA) and other applicable federal law, and for the purpose of making the records more accessible to historians and the public pursuant to that Act," reads the agreement, which also explicitly states that the National Archives owns the Obama records and that they're held at a Chicago-area facility controlled by the agency.
There is no evidence that Obama or his foundation did anything illegal in handling his presidential records, as NARA clarified in a statement released to PEOPLE Friday.

Obama is a perfect example on how to work with The National Archives and Records Administration (NARA), which legally owns those records under the Presidential Records Act and not the way TRUMP did it.
