CNN iReport: American Schools are in Serious Trouble
CNN’s iReport has turned its focus towards getting real-life accounts of the conditions of US education, from the mouths of parents, teachers, students and administrators all over the country. Currently, the site entries number 23 pages of content, reports from Americans on the conditions of their schools, their children’s education and what they feel the future holds for our kids if things keep going as they are.
Listed amongst the entries are:
• Budget cut protests
• Stories of teachers being fired unjustly
• Education Rights Campaigns
• Conditions of school restrooms and building maintenance
CNN is giving Americans the medium they need to show the country and the world what’s really going on here. People are encouraged to enter their own videos and stories, as noted on the home page:

Recently, students and workers around the country protested of budget cuts, layoffs, furloughs and tuition increases at public colleges and universities, and increased privatization of K-12 schools.

So, what can be done with all the news that is being posted by everyday people about the downward spiral of our education system? These videos, and new snippets are powerful tools that give a frightening perspective of those on the front lines of the fight to save our education system from its current condition.
Like any disease, awareness of its existence and its causes are a first step towards finding a cure. When it comes to the sickness of substandard education, it is up to everyone involved with a student or school to take the part of an activist to help prevent further spread of the disease and to come together to find a cure.
We need to stand together against the sickness that has made our schools, out teachers, our administrators, parents and our students apathetic towards the effects of substandard education. We need to rally to fight the disease of high school dropout rates that is killing the hope of our children’s future.
We march for a cure for cancer. We march for equal rights. We march to stop MS. Now it is time for us to stand together and to march for a cure to poor education in the United States. It may not be a disease that can kill the body, but it is one that kills the mind, the spirit and the hope of our future.

I think the American goverment is purposely allowing the public school system to fail so that private and parochial schools can flourish and only the wealthy can afford a decent education. They know most parents will give anything to make sure their children get a good education, and they are taking advantage of this.
Half of these high school students can't spell, write complete sentences or do basic math, I was like how in the world do they graduate from high school.
I know a sister on my block that is in the 11th grade and she had trouble with adding fractions and her mom asked me to help her because she couldn't do it.
The reality is that public schools are failing to prepare students for high school and college and it has everything to do with race and income.
