Chicago Schools Targeted for Turnaround

The Catalyst reports that Chicago schools are not outside the trend of “turnarounds” in US schools as countless districts scramble to take advantage of additional funds available to the bottom 5% of schools in the country.

US Secretary of Education, Arne Duncan has allotted $3.5 billion meant to save or close the “dropout factories” across the country. As the head of Chicago Public Schools, Duncan oversaw the turnaround for many schools in the Chicago school district.

Teach America’s Children supports the turnaround efforts throughout the Chicago schools system and urges parents of students in these low-performing schools to do what is necessary to rebuild their districts.
