The Sacred Feminine

The DaVinci Code has been discussed in THINKonline! in the past. We celebrate the fact that this book has been good for the Deist cause by helping to open the eyes of millions of people regarding organized, revealed religion.

I have searched the world wide web to read the reaction of Christian groups to The DaVinci Code. One of the first issues Christians invariably raise is the idea of the "sacred feminine," and they are, without exception, hostile to the concept! They immediately link "sacred feminine" to radical feminism. This is a very perverted response.

Perhaps this is because Judeo-Christianity perverts the normal and natural right from the beginning--that is, in Genesis. The first human created by the Bible god is a man and later the
woman is created out of Adam's rib! Why weren't they created together as a couple? Very soon this Bible god is making childbirth painful as a punishment, indeed, a curse: "I will
greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children..." How this has been accepted instead of condemned for two thousand years is a mystery!

An early Church teacher carried on the warped tradition with this: "each of you women is an Eve . . . You are the gate of Hell, you are the temptress of the forbidden tree; you are the first deserter of the divine law."

Yet, as the Dark centuries wore on, one may think the teachings were transformed. There was a Reformation, right? Here are Luther's thoughts about women: "If a woman grows weary and at last dies from childbearing, it matters not. Let her die from bearing, she is there to do it."

But it wasn't always that way for women!

For us, I think the important thing to consider and contemplate is that prior to Christianity all European peoples believed in religions that were nature based. Women were celebrated as the givers of life. Here is how historian Will Durant explains the ancient natural view:

"Since the death rate is high he pays devout homage to fertility and when he rises to the notion of a human divinity he pictures a mother goddess....He sees in her the basic fact of nature--that man's greatest enemy, death, is overcome by woman's mysterious power, reproduction, and he identifies this power with deity. The mother goddess for him represents the source of all life."(1).

What an extraordinary contrast!! This very beautiful and naturally masculine mindset toward women is hated by Judeao-Christianity. Their Bible explicitly condemns and curses women. Their perverted view of life has been inflicted upon our culture for two thousand years too long.

As Deists we can take the opening Dan Brown has given us and advance our cause. Through Deism we reclaim our true cultural heritage, a natural view of life.
