In first one-on-one Democratic debate Clinton, Sanders cover Wall Street, foreign policy, emails and more

DURHAM, N.H. — Both Democratic presidential candidates said that the federal government should intervene in the crisis in Flint, Mich., where mismanagement by state and local authorities allowed toxic lead to enter drinking water on a massive scale.

“Of course the federal government comes in, and of course the federal government says, ‘You’re not going to be poisoning little kids and ruining their entire lives,’ ” said Sen. Bernie Sanders (Vt.) during Thursday night’s presidential debate. He called for the resignation of Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder (R), whose administration has been widely blamed for allowing the crisis to escalate. Sanders added: “One wonders, if this were a white suburban community, what kind of response there would have been.” Flint is largely poor and has a significant number of African American residents.

Former secretary of state Hillary Clinton agreed with Sanders’s call for federal interventon, saying that the federal government ought to intervene, both to give residents clean water and to allow children affected by lead poisoning to have extra health-care and educational assistance.

Clinton said she would seek to bill the state for these federal services if the state is too slow to provide them.

“There have to be ways that we can begin to move, and then make them pay for it, and hold them accountable,” Clinton said.

This was a great debate between Hillary Clinton and Sen. Bernie Sanders, top rate.

My Take on Tonight’s Democratic Presidential Debate http://kristof.blogs.nytimes.com/2016/02/0...

Steve Williams Friday, February 5th 2016 at 2:21AM

This has got to be one of the worst, most boring debates I've ever seen. Just one big happy family, candidates and moderators alike.

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Friday, February 5th 2016 at 8:16AM

Stop being a hater Steven, their was more information shared with the people on programs to run the country then you ever saw come out from the republican clown car debates.

Steve Williams Friday, February 5th 2016 at 10:00AM

Ron, the moderators weren't objective. I told you that would be especially the case with Rachel. When Chuck Todd finally asked about the emails, he was apologetic, and of course he didn't ask the right question. What do you think Obama and Sanders talked about during their meeting? The email scandal effect on the Democratic Party, maybe? What the hell does this email business have to do with being a hater? That's how Hillary is trying to spin it, but I'm not some damn Repulican Ron, try and get that.

Steve Williams Friday, February 5th 2016 at 10:01AM

And of course at the end, there was Rachel's hug to seal the bargain.

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Friday, February 5th 2016 at 11:40AM

The difference in this debate was that the people learned and enjoyed both Hillary Clinton and Sen. Bernie Sanders talking to the people with out getting into negative personalities scrabbles., they stayed on point and to the issues.

Steven I know very well that you are a libertarian and the libertarians caucus in lock step with the republican party. OH!!! How I know well, who I am talking to Steven and don't you ever forget that, do you understand me?

As far as what President Obama and Sanders was talking about was the future direction of this country.

What E-mail scandal? Don't you remember that Hillary Clinton testified 11 hours before a congressional committee of republicans and she put that issue to rest with a smile on her face, did I mention after 11 grueling hours.

Steve Williams Friday, February 5th 2016 at 12:23PM

Let me try again Ron, and I hope someone is listening. The issue was never about anything but the security on her server. It should have been secured to the same level as any State Department server handling unclassified but sensitive information. IT WAS NOT! That doesn't have anyting to do with your damn political classifications, it has to do with the security of the country. Get it?

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Friday, February 5th 2016 at 1:02PM

Stop acting like a troll Steven. This blog is a free flowing conversation and this floor is open to the issues and not directed to one point. Did you see this news breaking article on Powell and rice? Hillary followed the same practice on E-mails as they did but none of that was brought up in last nights debates.

Also Steven, don't lose the point this conversation was talking about the subject of the E-mails brought up in last nights debates. Was the security of the country ever in question, Steven?

Just to bring you up to speed, take a look at this link when you get a chance.

State Department: Powell, Rice also Received Classified Info via Personal Email - See more at: http://ticklethewire.com/2016/02/05/state-...

Steve Williams Friday, February 5th 2016 at 2:04PM

All the candidates claim they're qualified to be commander-in-chief. hillary is the least qualified because she can't even secure a server, much less, the State.

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Friday, February 5th 2016 at 2:35PM

WOW! I don't believe you had the nerve to risk your creditability to say that BS. Sen. Bernie Sanders Hillary Clinton is better to lead the country that anyone on the Republican side.

By the way Steven, who would be your choice in this primary?

Steve Williams Friday, February 5th 2016 at 4:10PM

Ron, have you ever heard any Republican, any mediaperson, say what I've said about Hillary's email? Don't feel bad, Ted Cruz has been abusing email too.

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Friday, February 5th 2016 at 4:19PM

I don't feel bad Steven but why have you over looked my question to you?

Who would be your choice in this primary?

Steve Williams Friday, February 5th 2016 at 8:35PM

My choice in the primary, if I were a Republican, would be Trump. But I'm not a Republican and I'm not going to be a Republican just to vote for Trump. If I were a Democrat I'd vote for Bernie, but I'm not a Democrat neither. So my vote doesn't count until the general in November.

Steve Williams Friday, February 5th 2016 at 8:39PM

By the way, that slimey nasty Cruz has got my email address and I didn't give it to him.

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Friday, February 5th 2016 at 9:54PM

I don't like Cruz neither. Bernie Sanders is constant and consistent with his policies.

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Saturday, February 6th 2016 at 7:43AM

Why Bernie?

Steve Williams Saturday, February 6th 2016 at 10:25AM

I like Donald and Bernie for the same reasons. They are both elderly. Trump isn't a Republican and Sanders isn't a Democrat. They both draw large crowds and say outrageous things that will never happen, like "ban the Muslims" and "free tuition for all".

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Saturday, February 6th 2016 at 10:53AM

Steven, focus your attention on what I asked you, OK!

"WHY BERNIE?"

Steve Williams Saturday, February 6th 2016 at 11:08AM

Because he's a 74 year old curmudgeon.

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Saturday, February 6th 2016 at 11:31AM

Is that all Steven really, what about his policies on running the country?

Steve Williams Saturday, February 6th 2016 at 2:51PM

Policies don't matter at this point, only leadership.

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Saturday, February 6th 2016 at 4:41PM

WHAT!!! policies don't matter, WOW!!! That is the same BS was said when Hitler came to power.

Steve Williams Saturday, February 6th 2016 at 10:48PM

Ron, I said "at this point".

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Sunday, February 7th 2016 at 8:35AM

I saw that Steven, "At This Point", WHAT!!! policies don't matter, WOW!!! That is the same BS was said when Hitler came to power.

"At This Point'"

Steve Williams Sunday, February 7th 2016 at 10:22AM

I know what a great believer of polls you are Ron. It's been all about polls, not policy, and Trump is the clear leader.

Steve Williams Sunday, February 7th 2016 at 11:44AM

Hay Ron, what do you think about drafting young women?

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Sunday, February 7th 2016 at 11:55AM

No Steven don't try to run from that statement of yours: "Policies don't matter at this point, only leadership"

Most of What Donald Trump Says is B.S., Fact-Checking Website Says PolitiFact checked 77 Trump statements and found that 76 percent of them were Mostly False, False or Pants on Fire. http://www.usnews.com/news/articles/2015-1...

Do you think that Hitler LIED to his people this much or you don't care about how much Donald LIES, is about leadership? STEVEN, this is his Leadership, LIES at 76 percent of the time, you can not trust the things that spews out of the mouth of Donald.

Steven, Less than a quarter of the things The Donald says is the truth and you want this man as the lead of the Republican Party for president? WOW!

Steve Williams Sunday, February 7th 2016 at 12:02PM

Ron, if we're lucky, the contest will be between Donald and Bernie. You're a pretty hardcore Democrat aren't you? Vote for Bernie.

Steve Williams Sunday, February 7th 2016 at 12:05PM

Vote for Bernie and In God We Trust.

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Sunday, February 7th 2016 at 1:16PM

Why don't you want to clear up this statement of your Steven?

Policies don't matter at this point, only leadership.
Saturday, February 6th 2016 at 2:51PM

STEVEN, this is his Leadership, LIES at 76 percent of the time, you can not trust the things that spews out of the mouth of Donald. 76 % of the time, Donald is telling you a damn LIE and you are OK with that, WHY? I want to understand WHY Steven.

Steven, Less than a quarter of the things The Donald says is the truth and you want this man as the lead of the Republican Party for president? WOW!

Steve Williams Sunday, February 7th 2016 at 2:55PM

I don't have that faith that you do Ron, in the polls.

Steve Williams Sunday, February 7th 2016 at 3:24PM

They are making a h-u-g-e fuss in New Hampshire about voter ID. Why? You need one for everything else you do and voting is at least as important as driving a car or flying on a plane. Right?

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Sunday, February 7th 2016 at 3:40PM

You still want to run from the FACT that you have no reason to support a man that will LIE to you at a rate of 76% of the time and only 24% of the time will be tell truth and you want the nerve to try to make him the leader of the most powerful nation in the world.

I really see that you would want to talk about voter ID in New Hampshire as a distraction from why in the world why you want to support a HUGH LIAR. WHY IS THAT STEVEN?

Steve Williams Sunday, February 7th 2016 at 5:37PM

What do you think about the Republicans wanting to draft young women? I think Donald joined with the rest of them, didn't he? What would Hillary say?

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Sunday, February 7th 2016 at 5:59PM

Why do you support a man that will LIE to you in your face Steven some 76% of the times, Why would you do that?

Steve Williams Sunday, February 7th 2016 at 7:01PM

I thought you wanted to talk about policy Ron?

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Sunday, February 7th 2016 at 7:33PM

I been attempting to do that for a few hours now, Steven but you ran to Republicans wanting to draft young women and before that it was New Hampshire about voter ID and before that it was me being hardcore Democrat. You Steven, have been quit busy today avoiding the of the policies of The Donald who have been found to tell a LIE to the American people some 76%.

Now, what policies of Donald Trump's you care to explore Steven?

Steve Williams Sunday, February 7th 2016 at 7:52PM

I don't think of them as lies Ron, I think of them as tall stories. I guess I was remembering wrong though, Trump wasn't one of the ones questioned about the draft. Who do you support on the Republican side?

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Sunday, February 7th 2016 at 8:29PM

Why are you justifying LIES as "tall stories?" You are a grown man Steven and not a kid. When do TALL STORIES become a LIES to you Steven? 76% of was this man is saying to you is LIES and the sad part about what you said is, you are hoping that I buy your LIE about "TAIL STORIES." That will not work here Steven.

Steven, here's what I will do. I will your last comments in the pile of 💩 column. (LOL)

Steve Williams Sunday, February 7th 2016 at 9:26PM

Ron, do you think Donald really believes he can ban Muslims? The most dangerous politicians are the sneaky ones, like Obama and Hillary.

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Sunday, February 7th 2016 at 10:30PM

What I believe that Donald will create is, a unhealthy atmosphere here in the United States, where weak bigots, racist, among Americans will feel more comfortable to hate again. The corporations and the oligarchs will take more advantage of the tax base, which will create more jobs to be lost, like what happen under the Republican run BUSH Administration, where deregulation happen and the tax payers had to bell out the banks and those LIES that / "TAIL STORIES." got us into war in Iraq and created ISIS in the first place. I am sure that you remember that, don't you Steven?

I see more LIES at a rate of 76% coming out of Donald and this man is just running for his party nomination to run for president. Is this a man who carries your values Steven?

Steve Williams Monday, February 8th 2016 at 2:13AM

Obama should have been thinking ahead when when he and the Democrats ran roughshod over the People those first two years he was in office. Then he lost the House and still didn't learn his lesson, then he lost the Senate and still didn't learn. So now the Republicans will get bigger majorities in Congress, and Donald Trump will be President. There you have it Ron, these dumbass political parties never learn, and the People continue to ride the pendulum, back and forth, back and forth. Give up your party affiliation Ron and quit complaining.

Steve Williams Monday, February 8th 2016 at 2:51AM

You'd think from the way the Democrats talk, that bin Laden sprang into existence in 2000.

In 1988, he formed al-Qaeda.[12] He was banished from Saudi Arabia in 1992, and shifted his base to Sudan, until U.S. pressure forced him to leave Sudan in 1996. After establishing a new base in Afghanistan, he declared a war against the United States, initiating a series of bombings and related attacks.[13]

Steve Williams Tuesday, February 9th 2016 at 9:42AM

Hey Ron, I just remembered that I was living in New Hamshire in 1984 when I cast my vote for Reagan's second term. If I were there now I'd be able to cast my vote for Trump. He will be an even greater President than Reagan.

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Tuesday, February 9th 2016 at 9:55AM

absolutely amazing I asked you one question do Donald Trump reflect your values?

Steve Williams Tuesday, February 9th 2016 at 10:03AM

Absolutely.

Steve Williams Tuesday, February 9th 2016 at 10:06AM

Did you see Chris Matthew's exchange yesterday with Trump?

Steve Williams Tuesday, February 9th 2016 at 11:32AM

Hey Ron, Donald used the P Word. Wow, what a followup to Two Corinthians.

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Tuesday, February 9th 2016 at 4:29PM

You still have not answered my question of: "Do Donald Trump reflect your values?"

Steve Williams Tuesday, February 9th 2016 at 5:59PM

Absolutely.

Watch what happens with the 40% independent (non-affiliated) electorate.

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Tuesday, February 9th 2016 at 6:11PM

Are you saying Absolutely that Donald Trump reflects your values?

Steve Williams Tuesday, February 9th 2016 at 6:41PM

Yes, absolutely.

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Tuesday, February 9th 2016 at 7:01PM

Thank You for your honesty after I asked you a few times.
