Meet Trump VP Pick Mike Pence, Crusader Against Safe Legal Abortion and LGBTQ Rights
Democracy Now!

http://democracynow.org - We look at the record of Donald Trump and his running mate, Indiana Governor Mike Pence, on LGBT rights and restricting women’s access to reproductive healthcare with Dawn Laguens, executive vice president and chief experience officer of Planned Parenthood Federation of America and the Planned Parenthood Action Fund. In 2015, Pence signed into law the highly controversial anti-LGBT Religious Freedom Restoration Act, which gave businesses license to discriminate against LGBT people. The law caused a nationwide backlash. Dozens of companies and professional sports teams and leagues, including the Indianapolis-headquartered NCAA, threatened to boycott Indiana. Apple CEO Tim Cook slammed the law, likening it to the Jim Crow laws of the American South. Ultimately, Pence was forced to enact a revision specifying the law does not authorize anti-LGBT discrimination. As governor, Pence also oversaw a cut in Planned Parenthood funding in the state and signed legislation, since blocked, that would have restricted abortion access statewide. In 2011, he threatened to shut down the entire government if Congress didn’t defund Planned Parenthood.

LGBT, LGBTQ, LGBTQA, TBLG: These acronyms refer to Lesbian, Gay, Bis*xual, Transgender, Queer or Questioning, and As*xual or Ally. Although all of the different identities within “LGBT” are often lumped together (and share s*xism as a common root of oppression), there are specific needs and concerns related to each individual identity.

QUEER 101: IDENTITY, INCLUSION, AND RESOURCES

Queer 101: Identity, Inclusion, and Resources
Over the last 50 years, language around s*xuality and gender has shifted and changed in incredible ways. New words have been born; other words have changed meanings and usages. One of the more complex of these words is queer, a word that entered the language of s*xuality and gender as a derogatory term but is now worn and embraced with pride by many.

Defining Queer

Queer is a multi-faceted word that is used in different ways and means different things to different people. Here are some ways that queer is used today:

Queer (adj.): attracted to people of many genders
Although dominant culture tends to dictate that there are only two genders, gender is actually far more complex. Queer can be a label claimed by a person who is attracted to men, women, genderqueer people, and/or other gender nonconforming people.
Queer (adj.): not fitting cultural norms around s*xuality and/or gender identity/expression
Similarly to the above, queer can be a label claimed by a person who feels that they personally don’t fit into dominant norms, due to their own gender identity/expression, their s*xual practices, their relationship style, etc.
Queer (adj.): non-heteros*xual
Queer is sometimes used as an umbrella term to refer to all people with non-heteros*xual s*xual orientations or all people who are marginalized on the basis of s*xual orientation.
Queer (adj.): transgressive, revolutionary, anti-assimilation, challenging of the status quo
Many people claim the label queer as a badge of honor that has a radical, political edge. UU seminarian Elizabeth Nguyen has preached: “Queer, for many folks, is about resistance—resisting dominant culture’s ideas of ‘normal,’ rejoicing in transgression, celebrating the margins, reveling in difference, blessing ourselves.”
Queer (n.): an epithet or slur for someone perceived to be gay or lesbian
Queer is still sometimes used as a derogatory term. Many people who have had the word queer used against them are understandably very uncomfortable with the word.
10 Ways to be More Welcoming and Inclusive of Queer People

Respect queer as a valid s*xual orientation and identity label.
If you personally have negative associations with the word queer, find ways to open yourself to new understandings of the word. Do personal, gentle, deep work in order to honor and respect those who use queer to describe themselves.
Include the word queer in the language you use to talk about s*xual orientation and gender identity: “lesbian, gay, bis*xual, transgender, and queer” or “LGBTQ.”
Avoid making assumptions based on your perceptions of a person’s gender or the gender of the people they partner with—open yourself to the possibility that any person, of any age, might identify as queer.
Learn more about queer identity on your own. You might start by reading at least two articles or books that increase your understanding of queer identity.
Dominant culture teaches us to depend on dualisms; challenge yourself to eradicate dualisms from your language and your understanding of the world. Gay and straight, masculine and feminine, black and white: all dualisms obscure so many shades of grey, shades of queer, shades of androgyny and fluidity. Open yourself to this infinite variety.
Use terms that encompass all genders rather than only two (e.g., “children” instead of “boys and girls”; “people” instead of “women and men”; “siblings,” “kindred,” or “brothers and sisters and siblings of all genders” instead of “brothers and sisters”).
Expand the ways that s*xual orientation is understood and discussed in your congregation beyond the idea that s*xual orientation is a born-in, static trait. Although many people believe themselves to have been born lesbian, gay, bis*xual, queer, or straight, others experience s*xuality as fluid and changing throughout their lifetime. Honor this diversity of experience through the ways you talk and teach about s*xual orientation.
Do continuing education for your congregation at large on bis*xual and queer issues. See below for resource suggestions.
Queerness is often located at the margins. Consider how your congregation’s welcome, advocacy, witness, and/or service around LGBTQ issues can be more grounded in the experiences and needs of those who are most marginalized, such as queer and trans youth, queer and trans people of color, and undocumented queer and trans immigrants.

Let us talk about Mike Pence history for a moment.

Mike Pence’s Abysmal Record On Women’s Issues Is As Bad As It Gets
Kylie Cheung @kylietcheung | July 14, 2016 - 7:07 pm

Presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump has a well-deserved reputation for running his big, misogynistic mouth and proposing policies detrimental to women’s health. Fitting, then, that he should select Indiana Governor and Tea Party conservative Mike Pence for his running mate according to The New York Times’ and many other outlets’ reports Thursday. Governor Pence’s record on women’s health issues is frankly leagues and bounds more terrifying than Trump’s irritating, s*xist remarks and ignorant proposals pandering to anti-choice voters.
Pence has repeatedly signed into law terrible women’s health policies in Indiana, and we’ve gotten to see their disturbing results throughout his state. It’s painful just to imagine what this would look like on a national level, which is within the realm of possibility should Trump, by some nightmarish miracle, snag the presidency.
From measures regulating abortion that he’s signed into law, to defunding Planned Parenthood and closing clinics, to refusing to support equal pay, that Pence has been a disaster for Indiana women — and would be a disaster for American women as vice president — is no exaggeration. Here’s where Pence stands on these critical women’s issues:

On Abortion Policies

Earlier this year, Pence signed a measure into law prohibiting women from having abortions because of the fetus’ race, gender, or disabilities like down syndrome, and Indiana became only the second state to enact such a measure. It’s worth noting this law, like others similar to it, offered no funding or proposals with regard to how individuals born with severe disabilities could be taken care of, in life. According to Mother Jones, regulations like this are predominantly opposed by the medical community. Even fellow Republicans, like state Representative Sharon Negele, bashed the bill, as it included “no education” and “no funding” and was “just penalties.”
Additionally, the measure holds doctors legally liable for “wrongful death” for performing abortions for any of these reasons, problematically associating abortion with murder and winding us back 100 years by once again making abortion a punishable offense. Fortunately, the law was ultimately blocked last month by the Supreme Court.
The Daily Beast reports that during his more than 10 years in the U.S. House of Representatives, Pence repeatedly voted for strict anti-abortion measures, too, which his voting record corroborates. Unsurprisingly, he holds a 0 percent approval rating from NARAL Pro-Choice America.

While famous for allowing discrimination against the LGBTQ community, the Indiana’s Religious Freedom Restoration Act, supported by Pence, could also technically enable health care providers to deny women access to abortion, much like the Conscience Protection Act being floated by Congress.

Also worth noting, Indiana University recently sued the state for restricting “academic freedom by criminalizing the acquisition or transfer of fetal tissue used for research” in the wake of controversy surrounding Planned Parenthood donating tissue to research last summer. On the surface, this doesn’t appear to be a gendered issue, until you consider how fetal tissue research, which historically led to the discovery of a cure for polio and could potentially lead to many breakthroughs today, was supported by Republicans until placed in the context of women being able to make reproductive choices.

On Access To s*xual Health Care

Pence dramatically cut Planned Parenthood funding in his state. This led to several clinics providing crucial services regarding s*xually transmitted infections closing, and this led to a terrifying HIV outbreak in Scott County, Indiana.
Pence became Governor in 2013, and by 2014, state funding for Planned Parenthood was half what it had been in 2005, according to Mother Jones. Additionally, five clinics, none of which even provided abortions but tested for STIs, were closed. In their pathological hatred for the basic medical procedure of abortion, conservatives like Pence often forget how much Planned Parenthood contributes to public health aside from abortion, from STI testing to breast cancer screenings.

On Supreme Court Appointees

Indiana is one of few states that allows governors to appoint justices to the state Supreme Court, and we received a rare and telling glimpse of the kind of SCOTUS justices Pence would probably hand his support to when he appointed lawyer Geoffrey Slaughter in May. As President, Trump would have the ultimate say in who got to be a justice, and has already made it clear he’d support anti-choice conservatives. However, since SCOTUS justices have so much power in determining the outcomes of women’s health and other gender issues, it’s worth noting the kind of people Pence would endorse.

While Slaughter’s stances on abortion and other women’s health issues remain unclear, Slaughter has received high praise from radically conservative news outlet Breitbart and fellow conservatives like Kelly Shackelford, president of First Liberty Institute and a strong proponent for the conservative brand of “religious freedom,” aka the right to unabashedly impose anti-choice values on women.

Shackelford told Breitbart Slaughter had “an excellent reputation as a constitutional conservative who reveres the First Amendment,” and applauded his “principles.”

On Workplace Equality

Pence voted against the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, which offers women more leverage in suing for pay discrimination, three times while in Congress. While Pence was governor, the Indiana Democratic Party notes Indiana women still make 73 cents to every one dollar earned by their male counterparts, notably lower than the national average median of women’s pay compared to men’s, and at a time of record high unemployment. Additionally, women in Indiana work two out of every three minimum wage jobs offered throughout the state.
In 2014, Indiana House Democrats proposed an amendment creating a commission to look into the gender pay disparity in the state, but this attempt was blocked. Pence’s stances on paid family leave and the rights of mothers in the workplace remain unclear. However, as previously mentioned, Indiana’s Religious Freedom Restoration Act, which he supports, technically enables employers or health care providers to deny women access to reproductive health services like abortion if they morally oppose it.

Where President Obama and Vice President Joe Biden have vocally spoken out against the wage gap and also supported measures to address it, for all Trump’s big talk about how great he’d be for women, women who have worked with him share overwhelmingly negative experiences. Given his poor record on advancing workplace equality, it’s unlikely Pence would balance Trump out.

Ron, do you think a wedding photography husband and wife team, who are Christian, who believe the Bible is the literal Word of God, should be subject to a lawsuit if they decline to photograph a same-s-ex marriage?

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Wednesday, August 17th 2016 at 9:18AM

That is a good question Steve.

If you are in the business of photography and a gay couple attempts to hire you and you believe the Bible is the literal Word of God, should be subject to a lawsuit if they decline to photograph a same-s.e.x. marriage, then you need to get out of that business.

Steven, I also believe that you should be open for a law suit and you need to reexamine your faith.

See Steven I may not like the practice but not the people. I have the power to engage in the homos*xual practice or not. We all are sinners and all have sinned. Not one of us is above sin, no not one. Also when I look back in The Holy Bible I find what the Bible has to say about homos*xuality. The short answer is: not much.

The longer answer requires understanding that sacred texts are given meaning through interpretation; these interpretations change over time and can also vary within any particular period. The Hebrew Bible—what Christians call the Old Testament—does mention and condemn same-s*x s*xual behavior, but only three times, twice in Leviticus (18:22 and 20:13) and once in Genesis (19:1–11), in the story of Sodom and Gomorrah. In the New Testament, homos*xual acts might be mentioned, depending on the interpretation, in Paul’s letter to the Romans condemning men’s “shameless” s*xual acts with each other (just which acts are not named) and in his condemnation of women’s “unnatural” s*xual acts (1:26–27).

This is the problem the Mike Pence ran into with the business communities and the law of the land and had to back down from this limited narrow discrimination law based on religion.

Steve Williams Wednesday, August 17th 2016 at 9:56AM

Well Ron, my son and his wife are not going to change their faith nor give up the business that they love. Nor should they. Fortunately they get their business through word of mouth.

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Wednesday, August 17th 2016 at 11:03AM

Steven, I have not vacated that anyone to get out of the business that they love Steve. If they are Christians, The Holy Bible says nothing about discriminating against the LGBTQ communities, so why not serve the public?

Also from what I know of the Buddhist Religion is minimal but what I do know is Buddhism has three main branches: Theravada, the oldest form of Buddhism that emphasizes the monastic life; Mahayana Buddhism, a later form that includes Pure Land, Zen, Nichiren, and other sects; and Vajrayana, a unique form that arose in India and Tibet and is led by the Dalai Lama. In Theravada Buddhism is the one that I spent more time in study, there are two main ways of life: the life of the monk and the life of the lay person (i.e. ordinary person with a job, a family, a home, etc.)

Buddhist monks are expected to live lives of celibacy, meaning abstinence from any type of s*x. There is no explicit rule prohibiting those with a homos*xual orientation from monastic life.

Since here in The United States of America, we have no official religion, Mike Pence found that this kind of thinking is narrow minded at best and just plane wrong in the eyes of the Law, business and public communities in Indiana and now people want to put this man in the second most powerful office in the world, I don't think so.

Do you know Mike Pence?

Steve Williams Wednesday, August 17th 2016 at 11:21AM

You said this Ron, "...then you need to get out of that business." Are you trying to establish a religious test, that your faith cannot be one that takes offense at homos*xuality?

Steve Williams Wednesday, August 17th 2016 at 11:26AM

The buddhism I follow is the great vehicle sutra named wonderful law lotus flower. It says nothing about homos*xuality.

Steve Williams Wednesday, August 17th 2016 at 11:29AM

Explicitly that is. Homos*xuality is subject to the ten factors, just like everything else.

Who is Pence? What do you think about the article in this blog of Mike Pence?

Steve Williams Wednesday, August 17th 2016 at 10:01PM

For Mr. Ailes, being connected with Mr. Trump’s campaign could be a form of redemption after he was pushed out of the powerful network that he helped build. And for Mr. Trump, having Mr. Ailes taking a hand in his preparations for the debates adds immeasurably to the messaging and media expertise in his corner — and could raise alarms within Mrs. Clinton’s camp about just how aggressive Mr. Trump plans to be in those encounters.

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Thursday, August 18th 2016 at 11:21AM

Steven, In my life time, the word "Queer" has many negative connotations to older people who remember the word as a taunt and insult and such (negative) usage of the term continues. This word "Queer" is a word that should not be tossed around especially from people that is outside of that group of people.

Now the term "LGBTQ community" is more up to date but using that term "Queer" is not. Like the word H-O-N-K-Y means something totally different coming from someone who is white, then if it came from me . Just like calling someone of my race, using the word N-I-G-G-E-R means something totally different coming from someone who is white, then if it came from a Black person.

Don't think that I was offended by your use of the word Queer or Queers.

If you are inside that group, that is your choice but I am not apart of the sect and would not use that word to Identify a group of people, do you understand me?

Steve Williams Thursday, August 18th 2016 at 12:11PM

That's fine Ron, but since I am a queer I'd like to know how Pence is crusading against me, and how Hillary is helping me by making me part of the 'Q'.

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Thursday, August 18th 2016 at 12:58PM

Steven, I am glad to know that you are coming out and standing up to your Identity in this discussion, I understand and respect your choice.

Gov. Mike Pence signs 'religious freedom' bill in private into law April 2, 2015. This a bill in Indiana that would discriminate against the gay community. The name alone is a LIE, "RELIGIOUS FREEDOM" Let us see what happened.

The nation's latest legislative battle over religious freedom and gay rights came to a close Thursday when Indiana Gov. Mike Pence signed a controversial "religious freedom" bill into law.

His action followed two days of intense pressure from opponents — including technology company executives and convention organizers — who fear the measure could allow discrimination, particularly against gays and lesbians.

Senate Bill 101 prohibits state or local governments from substantially burdening a person's ability to exercise their religion — unless the government can show that it has a compelling interest and that the action is the least-restrictive means of achieving it. It takes effect July 1.

Although the bill does not mention s*xual orientation, opponents fear it could allow business owners to deny services to gays and lesbians for religious reasons.

I asked, how is Pence crusading against me? Can you tell me that Ron?

Steve Williams Friday, August 19th 2016 at 7:25PM

You and you Democrats are all about identity politics but you can't even explain your identities.

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Friday, August 19th 2016 at 9:21PM

What did you mean when you said: "but since I am a queer I'd like to know how Pence is crusading against me," who was you talking about when you said: "I am a queer."

I'AM A QUEER, WHO WAS YOU TALKING ABOUT STEVEN, WHEN YOU SAY: "I'AM A QUEER?"

Steve Williams Saturday, August 20th 2016 at 12:58AM

I was talking about "I" Ron. I and the LGBTQA community have no concern about Pence.

Steve Williams Saturday, August 20th 2016 at 1:48AM

Pence did the same thing as Bill Clinton.

Religious Freedom Restoration Act of 1993

The Religious Freedom Restoration Act of 1993, Pub. L. No. 103-141, 107 Stat. 1488 (November 16, 1993), codified at 42 U.S.C. § 2000bb through 42 U.S.C. § 2000bb-4 (also known as RFRA), is a 1993 United States federal law that "ensures that interests in religious freedom are protected."[1] The bill was introduced by Congressman Chuck Schumer (D-NY) on March 11, 1993. A companion bill was introduced in the Senate by Ted Kennedy (D-MA) the same day. A unanimous U.S. House and a nearly unanimous U.S. Senate—three senators voted against passage[2]—passed the bill, and President Bill Clinton signed it into law.

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Saturday, August 20th 2016 at 10:18AM

I was talking about "I" Ron. I and the LGBTQA community have no concern about Pence.

Let me backup for a moment Steven, the question was: "I'AM A QUEER, WHO WAS YOU TALKING ABOUT STEVEN? WHEN YOU SAY: "I'AM A QUEER" That means, you stand alone when you mention "I" is that correct Steven?

At this point, I am not interested in Pence did the same thing as Bill Clinton, Religious Freedom Restoration Act of 1993 or the LGBTQ community.

What I want you to focus on is answering this question: : "I'AM A QUEER, WHO WAS YOU TALKING ABOUT STEVEN? WHEN YOU SAY: "I'AM A QUEER" That means, you stand alone when you mention "I" is that correct Steven?

Steve Williams Saturday, August 20th 2016 at 10:27AM

There are multitudes of us queers Ron.

That's fine Ron, but since I am a queer I'd like to know how Pence is crusading against me, and how Hillary is helping me by making me part of the 'Q'.

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Saturday, August 20th 2016 at 6:02PM

I have NO clue what you are talking about. You refuse to answer my simple question.

HIGHLIGHTS: "I am a QUEER," ARE THESE YOUR WORDS STEVEN. What are you talking about?

Steve Williams Saturday, August 20th 2016 at 11:27PM

I'm talking about identity politics.

Steve Williams Saturday, August 20th 2016 at 11:29PM

"Queer is sometimes used as an umbrella term..."

Steve Williams Sunday, August 21st 2016 at 12:42AM

Identity politics, also called identitarian politics,[1] are political arguments that focus upon the interest and perspectives of groups with which people identify. Identity politics includes the ways in which people's politics may be shaped by aspects of their identity through loosely correlated social organizations. Examples include social organizations based on race, class, religion, gender, gender identity, ethnicity, ideology, nationality, s*xual orientation, culture, language (i.e. regional language / minority language) information preference, history, musical or literary preference, medical conditions, professions, or hobbies. Not all members of any given group are necessarily involved in identity politics.

The term identity politics and movements linked to it came into being during the latter part of the 20th century. It can most notably be found in class movements; feminist movements; lesbian, gay, bis*xual, and transgender movements; disability movements; ethnic movements; and post-colonial movements.[2] Minority influence, a central component of identity politics, is a form of social influence whereby a majority is influenced by the beliefs or behavior of a minority. Unlike other forms of influence this usually involves a personal shift in private opinion[citation needed] called conversion.

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Sunday, August 21st 2016 at 3:00PM

I have asked you was these your words: HIGHLIGHTS: "I am a QUEER," ARE THESE YOUR WORDS STEVEN?

You've asked me a stupid question, over and over and over again. Anyone can see those are my words.

Steve Williams Sunday, August 21st 2016 at 4:18PM

What is your point Ron?

Steve Williams Sunday, August 21st 2016 at 4:40PM

You are great for asking questions but never answering them. My first one at the very top, what's the difference between a lesbian and a queer? Ron?

Steve Williams Sunday, August 21st 2016 at 4:44PM

"have been deleted..." You go Ron.

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Sunday, August 21st 2016 at 5:15PM

I am not interested in what some outside people can see Steven. I need you admit that you are QUEER!!!

Steve Williams Sunday, August 21st 2016 at 5:25PM

"A" QUEER Ron. I knew lots of QUEER black men back in the day.

Steve Williams Sunday, August 21st 2016 at 5:36PM

More QUEER than not.

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Sunday, August 21st 2016 at 5:48PM

Running from yourself? What a shame. "I am a QUEER," Steven are you talking about yourself?

Steve Williams Sunday, August 21st 2016 at 6:02PM

The first time with a black man was when I was sixteen.

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Sunday, August 21st 2016 at 6:42PM

Are you trying to say something Steven? The first time "WHAT" was with a black man when you was 16 years old?

Steve Williams Sunday, August 21st 2016 at 10:40PM

You know what I'm talking about Ron.

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Sunday, August 21st 2016 at 11:46PM

I have no clue what you are talking about... Do you want to share that?

Are you trying to say something Steven? take your time, The first time for "WHAT?" With a black man when you was 16 years old? Take your time.

Steve Williams Monday, August 22nd 2016 at 2:37AM

I see that all this time you want to talk about anything but how Pence is crusading against LGBTQ. You don't know a damn thing about LGBTQ.

Steve Williams Monday, August 22nd 2016 at 2:39AM

That's a bleeding heart liberal for you.

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Monday, August 22nd 2016 at 4:40AM

Have you forgotten, that it was you who sad that you was QUEER?

It was you who said they had something to do with a black man, don't you remember?

Or is that something QUEERS do? You are talking like People, Pence wants to discriminate against.

Steve Williams Monday, August 22nd 2016 at 8:00AM

When I was sixteen I was kidnapped and molested. Now back to Pence. Pence was opposed to same s*x marriage. That is not the same thing as crusading against the LGBTQ community. LGBTQ is a catch phrase exploited by the democrats, nothing more.

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Monday, August 22nd 2016 at 9:18AM

Steven, I thank The Most High that you survived this traumatic of your kidnapping and molestation ordeal however I fail to see why you Identify yourself as a member of the LGBTQ community or being that "Q" in that title. Do you see yourself as a HOMOS-EXUAL?

Steve Williams Monday, August 22nd 2016 at 9:41AM

I told you Ron why I said I was a queer. Out of the many possible definitions I said I used "not heteros*xual". I also said that as a queer I have no concern about Pence being against LGBTQ rights. I understand that those choosing a same s*x marriage might have concern about Pence, but that does not equate to the LGBTQ at large. Same s*x marriage and evangelical christians providing marriage services are at odds. How would you resolve that Ron?

Steve Williams Monday, August 22nd 2016 at 9:44AM

No Ron, I'm not homos*xual. I love women.

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Monday, August 22nd 2016 at 10:05AM

If you are not HOMOS-EXUAL, why do you identify yourself as QUEER?

Steve Williams Monday, August 22nd 2016 at 11:18AM

Because I'm not heteros*xual. Why do you want to keep talking about me?

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Monday, August 22nd 2016 at 11:24AM

I don't care if you are a heteros*xual or not Steven, that is not my point here. My question is why do you identify yourself as QUEER, why do you call yourself a QUEER?

That is my question to you Steven.

Steve Williams Monday, August 22nd 2016 at 9:42PM

I only just discovered I'm a queer a week ago when you posted this blog and I decided to find out who the Q are. Thank you Ron.

Queer has become the preferred term to describe certain radical academic disciplines and is gaining use as a descriptor of non-normative[note 1] (i.e. anti-heteronormativity and anti-homonormativity) identities and politics.[1] Academic disciplines such as queer theory and queer studies share a general opposition to binarism, normativity, and a perceived lack of intersectionality within the mainstream LGBT movement. Queer arts, queer cultural groups, and queer political groups are examples of expressions of queer identities.

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Wednesday, August 24th 2016 at 3:44PM

Steven, you have said that all this is new. I like to believe that you took your time to decide to identity yourself as QUEER but what makes you QUEER?

Steve Williams Wednesday, August 24th 2016 at 6:51PM

It didn't take any time at all Ron. I just did a search on "queer meaning". From what I saw we could make our lives easier by saying "queer community" rather than "LGBTQ community."

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Wednesday, August 24th 2016 at 7:59PM

Steven, I am not talking about we, in my question to you. Why did you decide to identify, yourself as QUEER?

What makes you QUEER?

Steve Williams Wednesday, August 24th 2016 at 10:39PM

I think maybe you are bigoted towards queers.

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Wednesday, August 24th 2016 at 10:56PM

I see that you have not answered my question Steven, What makes you QUEER?

Steve Williams Thursday, August 25th 2016 at 4:49AM

A combination of genetics and environment.

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Thursday, August 25th 2016 at 8:18AM

Environment, I don't understand.

Steve Williams Thursday, August 25th 2016 at 10:50AM

Steve Williams Thursday, August 25th 2016 at 9:05PM

One Corinthians 7:1

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Thursday, August 25th 2016 at 9:44PM

First of all, I would like to correct you about this chapter, it is not called One Corinthians 7:1, but it is referred to as 1 Chronicles 7 in The King James Version (KJV)

You also said that I would find these words: "it is better for a man not to touch a woman;

I see that you took apart of a sentence out of that verse but since you used that verse, explain to me, what you have quoted, can you do that?

Steve Williams Thursday, August 25th 2016 at 11:03PM

1 means One. I quoted a complete verse and a complete clause. The message is clear, s*x is bad but if you're not so pure as Paul he'll let you do it his way.

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Friday, August 26th 2016 at 2:27AM

First of all, I would like to correct you about this chapter, Steven. It is not called One Corinthians 7:1 but 1 First Corinthian, Chapter 7 verse 1. in the King James Version of The Bible (KJV)

Since you like to talk in one liners and sound bites and you said that you produce the complete verse, let me show you what you missed:

1 Corinthians 7King James Version (KJV)

7 Now concerning the things whereof ye wrote unto me: It is good for a man not to touch a woman.

That is the full quotation, now let us read on.

This means Now concerning the things of which you (WHEREOF YE) wrote to me: It is good for a man not to touch a woman. Verse 2. tells you why!!! 2 Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband.

If this is your answer for being QUEER or the Bible told you to be, explains this LIE of A combination of genetics and environment then your MIXED UP, LOST and a LIE at the same time. The good part about that is you can get off that road, if you want to.

Paul is saying here not to have s*x unless it is your own wife MAN and let every woman have her own husband WOMAN. PAUL is talking to both MAN AND WOMAN and not to a QUEER.

So, STEVEN don't tell that LIE no more that the Bible told you to be a QUEER and use that passage again because that is a LIE and now you know it!

Pence, the same people that you want to put into office tried to pass laws in the State of Indiana, that would discriminate and deny you services on mare religious grounds. You would be truly voting against your own interest, why would you do that Steven?

You don't have to believe me GOOGLE IT!!!

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Friday, August 26th 2016 at 2:55AM

see you have over looked the meaning of the full quote of 1 Corinthians 7 King James Version (KJV)

7 Now concerning the things whereof ye wrote unto me: It is good for a man not to touch a woman

Now you don't have a thing to say, I wonder why??? As I DROP THE MIC!!!!

BUSTED FOR LYING.... NOW, you still want to vote against your own interest and they say "WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO LOSE?" I say "FREEDOM."

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Friday, August 26th 2016 at 2:58AM

That man was talking directly to your group of people, do you want that?

Steve Williams Friday, August 26th 2016 at 6:40AM

Ron, Christianity is why you have people like Pence. As we see in One Corinthians it teaches intolerance.

Steve Williams Friday, August 26th 2016 at 6:44AM

Fornication is generally consensual s*xual intercourse between two people not married to each other.[1][2] For many people, the term carries an overtone of moral or religious disapproval (living in sin), but the significance of s*xual acts to which the term is applied varies between religions, societies and cultures. The definition is often disputed. In modern usage, the term is often replaced with a more judgment-neutral term like extramarital s*x.

Etymology and usage Edit

Prostitutes in ancient Rome waited for their customers out of the rain under vaulted ceilings,[3] and the Latin word for vaults, fornix, became a euphemism for brothels, and the Latin verb fornicare referred to a man visiting a brothel.[4][5][6] The first recorded use in English is in the Cursor Mundi, c. 1300; the Oxford English Dictionary (OED) records a figurative use as well: "The forsaking of God for idols".[7]

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Friday, August 26th 2016 at 8:31AM

So, you are saying that it is NOT a good idea, good wisdom, good common sense to avoid fornication by getting a wife and only have S-E-X with one woman?

For a woman getting a husband and only having S-E-X with one man? That makes you QUEER?

All what you describe are acts of being a heathen but I have no right to write laws to deny you services or discriminate against you on what Mike Pence might believe or may try to write into THE LAW OF THE LAND.

This is what you want to say is the reason why you are QUEER? Interesting.

Steve Williams Friday, August 26th 2016 at 10:43AM

I think one man one woman is good wisdom for many people, myself included. But the question is, what did Paul say? Was he saying fornication was wrong only for the Corinthian church? Pence doesn't think so and I blame that on the modern day church.

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Friday, August 26th 2016 at 11:26AM

No Steven, that message was not only for the people of the Church of Corinthian but that was the message promoted by the teachings of Jesus Christ to his apostles, to teach and spread the word to his people, to the lost sheep, of The Good News.
