Steve Harvey Defends Trump Meeting: ‘I Didn’t Expect the Backlash to Be So Fierce’

Comedian and talk show host Steve Harvey pushed back against critics he says attacked him for meeting and agreeing to work with Donald Trump’s administration.

On a personal note, a lot of ya’ll hurt me. You really did. I didn’t expect the backlash to be so fierce,” Harvey told his radio audience Monday.

“Change can only happen when we sit at the table. If we sit at the table, then we can have a say as to what’s to be eaten on the menu,” Harvey said defending his decision to work with Trump. “I have an obligation to take a seat at the table when invited.”

Steve Harvey said that Donald Trump's transition team contacted him to set up a meeting. Steve Harvey claims he went to the meeting unaware of the purpose of the meeting. Now I don't know about you Brother Deacon, but every parent, teacher, principal, or other fellow staff member I work with refuses to sit down in a meeting unless there is a strategy, or a set agenda in place. I'm a businesswoman, and I believe time is too valuable to arrange a meeting just to talk about nothing.
Here is the thing, if these folks wanna meet with Trump, fine. But why don't they bring along experts in their field of interest? Now that Trump has won, they all believe that they too can be president. I agree that we still must advocate for black communities regardless of who is president, but Steve Harvey and other entertainers/athletes who agree to meet with Trump don't realize that they're being used. Trump isn't serious about addressing the concerns of Black people. But he thinks that we're dumb enough to believe that he cares if Steve Harvey, Kanye West, Don King, or Omorosa tells us that he does. Omarosa said something similar regarding how black people judged her for supporting Trump. She added she will never forgive those who hurt her.

Sister Muhammad, I have listened to the words of Steve Harvey and it sounds like he went to that meeting by himself. You have brought up a very good point, Steve Harvey, Kanye West, Don King, or Omorosa had that meeting by themselves. If they was working on the behalf of the Black American community, they should have brought a team of professional negotiators, with a thought plan on the behalf of our community. Every area meeting that I have attended had expert representatives in their fields to brainstorm and layout a plan of action to achieve a set purpose.

Now don't get me wrong, I listened for Steve Harvey's objective from his own words and what I came away with was more emotional to the reaction to his meeting, then purposeful. I would like to hear the reason why Brother Steve Harvey went to the meeting by himself, what was his plans, and did he reach a solid objective because I am sure that meeting was not a one on one meeting, just a feeling.
