A poll conducted by The Marist Poll, in collaboration with NPR/PBS NewsHour, says that 62 percent of Americans say statues honoring Confederate leaders should remain as a historical symbol.

Here's a breakdown of those who say the statues should stay:

44 percent of Democrats
86 percent of Republicans
61 percent of Independents

You are correct Ron, let's talk about monuments. I was disturbed when I saw that Confederate Soldiers Monument come down on its head and get crushed. Confederate soldiers died for their cause and to say that cause was for slavery is incorrect. The Confederate rank and file were not slave owners and they deserve our respect, just as Vietnam veterans do though at the time many called you baby killers, and you may likewise be harshly judged by future generations. So I was glad when I finally saw a story about the penalty those lawless ones in Durham are facing on FELONY charges.

Robert E Lee statue is in the news, it was his ideology in orders that those soldiers died to carry out the ACT of war against United States of America, to fight for what they believed in and that is the institution of slavery.

Those poor Confederate soldiers both Black and White was these tools of the richer man, conned into fighting the Civil War, two continue that slavery institution, that way of life in the SOUTH.

Let us talk about monument in a park across the street from city hall in Birmingham, Alabama, which was put in in 1905. Way after The Civil War. Now this monument was not taken down but covered up.

The Confederate Soldiers and Sailors monument stands at the entrance of the park at the end of 20th Street North, and it was given to the city by the United Daughters of the Confederacy in 1905.
