I'm keeping my eyes on the local news channels here in New Orleans. The irony of all this is that this happened days away from the anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. August and September mark the height of hurricane season in Louisiana (which poses a threat from June to November). Donald Trump meanwhile has made no move to appoint a new supervisor at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (the agency in charge of the National Hurricane Center and the National Weather Service). I'm telling you, Donald Trump will make Bush's fiasco with Hurricane Katrina look like child's play. Many, many folks will be extremely effed up...and a lot of his core supporters live close to, and directly in places that are very prone to hurricane hit areas.

Sister Muhammad, I believe you are right, that seat still remains open.

But Mr. Kelly’s old post is not the only relevant position without a permanent occupant. Two deputy director nominees at FEMA still await confirmation. Mr. Trump has not yet nominated someone to lead the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, which includes the National Weather Service and the National Hurricane Center. And the center itself is in the midst of a director search, after its last director, Rick Knabb, left in May to become an on-air expert at the Weather Channel.

Did NOAA and the National Hurricane Center fail in their preparations for Harvey?

So far, so good.
