Ronald Reagan is loved by conservatives and was loved by big business throughout his presidency and there's a reason for it. When Reagan came into office in January of 1981, the top tax rate was 70%, but when he left office in 1989 the top tax rate was down to only 28%. As Reagan gave the breaks to all his rich friends, there was a lack of revenue coming into the federal government. In order to bring money back into the government, Reagan was forced to raise taxes eleven times throughout his time in office. One example was when he signed into law the Tax Equity and Fiscal Responsibility Act of 1982. Reagan raised taxes seven of the eight years he was in office and the tax increases were felt hardest by the lower and middle class.

Now this began the moment that the rich started paying a lower tax rate then the middle class and the poor, let of move on.

Tripling the National Debt -

As Reagan cut taxes for the wealthy, the government was left with less money to spend. When Reagan came into office the national debt was $900 billion, by the time he left the national debt had tripled to $2.8 trillion. Now this sound like something right out of the play book, Trump is following.

Workers Wages.

Unemployment began to drop as the years went on, but the jobs that were created were low paying and barely helped people make ends meet. The middle and lower class had their wages nearly frozen as the top earners saw dramatic increases in salary. Today Unemployment has dropped but wages are still at a all time LOW compared to this booming economy under Donald J. Trump, sounds familiar Steve?

The Republican Party, war on unions and the middle class has been heating up in states like Wisconsin and Ohio, but it has been going on for a long time. Unions are formed to give a united voice to the workers in an attempt to create fairness between the corporations and their employees. On August 3rd, 1981, PATCO (Professional Air Traffic Controllers Organization) went on strike in an effort to get better pay and safer working conditions. Two days later, taking the side of business, Ronald Reagan fired 11,345 workers for not returning to work.

Today Trump said that he wants to "Make America Great Again. Steve," do you really think that America was Great under Ronald Reagan the worst president of our lifetime?

Once out of office, ex-presidents usually fade into private life and stay out of politics. They write memoirs, serve on corporate boards, and start charitable foundations. George W. Bush retired to his ranch in Texas and, most recently, painted portraits of veterans wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan. The Republican candidate for PA District 6 is Greg McCauley. His website doesn't mention pre-existing conditions.

America is still reeling from the failures of Obamacare. We need to bring down premiums and make healthcare affordable again in PA District 6.

Congress should be discussing mutually owned health insurance, where the patients actually own part of the insurance company. Any profits are reinvested back into the company and don’t get funneled away to shareholders on Wall Street. Some of these companies could also be set up as non-profits.

Additionally, the portion you pay for your monthly premium should be made tax deductible.

But there’s more work to be done. Our existing Medicare and Medicaid programs should be vetted, and we need to eliminate instances of fraud wherever we find them. We can also streamline the prescription drug market by cutting out the middleman and lowering prices for consumers. I’d also like to keep Wall Street from profiting from your cancer diagnosis.

As a member of Congress, I’ll always be willing to listen to any proposal that could save my constituents in PA 6 money and expand access to affordable healthcare.

Saving Taxpayer Money
