Profile of a forgotten trailblazer. Samuel J. Battle rose from New York City's first Black police officer in 1911, to its first Black sergeant in 1926, to the first Black lieutenant in 1935, to the city’s first Black parole commissioner in 1941…”Big Sam” set the bar pretty high for all other officers (no matter the color) that followed.

This is African - American History, American History welcome to the conversation. My name is Deacon Ron Gray. COME AND JOIN THE CONVERSATION.
