I know that you was NOT in this country until much later but I was, and I lived in the times when Jim Crow Laws was alive and practice in it's highlight and I had to learn that Racism was the way of life.

If you was light skinned or could have passed for white, you was not directly effected by Jim Crow but, if your skin was a deeply enriched, in "BLACK" then racism effected you much differently.

Jim Crow racism was a state and local laws enforcing racial segregation in the Southern United States. Enacted after the Reconstruction period, these laws continued in force until 1965.
