Rachel Maddow looks at the four columns of the U.S. response to Russia's annexation of Crimea, sanctions, removal from the G8, military aid to Ukraine, and support to NATO, and notes that the Trump administration has worked to remove all four, most recently by seeking to take money from the European Deterrence Initiative to pay for Trump's border wall.

Hey Steve, what do you think about this report?

Steve Williams Monday, September 9th 2019 at 7:04PM

We thank the President for these actions. Ukraine and Crimea are none of our business.

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Monday, September 9th 2019 at 7:42PM

So, you approve of what The Russian’s “PUTIN” have done in Ukraine and Crimea?

Steve Williams Tuesday, September 10th 2019 at 6:28AM

Do yo think my approval is required Ron? I said, it's none of our business.

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Tuesday, September 10th 2019 at 8:16AM

I understand clearly what you said Steve. Do you believe of what The Russian’s “PUTIN” have done in Ukraine and Crimea was correct?

Steve Williams Tuesday, September 10th 2019 at 2:53PM

Crimea voted to join Russia. That's how self governance works Ron and I approve of self governance.

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Tuesday, September 10th 2019 at 4:37PM

You know Steve, in 2014, Putin choose to take military action by invading and seizing a big portion of The Ukraine which included Crimea. I believe this kind of military action, of type of magnitude, taking over country by military force since WORLD WAR II.

YOUR WORDS: Crimea voted to join Russia.

MY QUESTION: Was that vote taken before or after Putin invaded of Crimea and took it over by setting up a puppet goverment Steve?

Steve Williams Tuesday, September 10th 2019 at 5:12PM

I read the Wikipedia article Ron. It's pretty clear Crimea led the effort.

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Tuesday, September 10th 2019 at 6:22PM

Led the effort. Steve, I asked you a QUESTION: Was that vote taken before or after Putin invaded of Crimea and took it over by setting up a puppet goverment Steve?

Steve Williams Wednesday, September 11th 2019 at 6:02PM

Read the Wikipedia article and you'll find out Ron.

Dea. Ron Gray Sr. Wednesday, September 11th 2019 at 7:44PM

I am asking YOU Steve, it was you who brought this, to the conversation:

Crimea voted to join Russia. That's how self governance works Ron and I approve of self governance.

The Crimean Peninsula was annexed by the Russian Federation in February–March 2014 and since then has been administered as two Russian federal subjects—the Republic of Crimea and the federal city of Sevastopol.[38] The annexation from Ukraine followed a Russian military intervention in Crimea that took place in the aftermath of the 2014 Ukrainian revolution and was part of wider unrest across southern and eastern Ukraine.[39][40]

On 22–23 February 2014, Russian president Vladimir Putin convened an all-night meeting with security service chiefs to discuss the extrication of the deposed Ukrainian president, Viktor Yanukovych. At the end of the meeting Putin remarked that "we must start working on returning Crimea to Russia".[4] On 23 February, pro-Russian demonstrations were held in the Crimean city of Sevastopol. On 27 February, masked Russian troops without insignia[7] took over the Supreme Council (parliament) of Crimea,[41][42] and captured strategic sites across Crimea, which led to the installation of the pro-Russian Aksyonov government in Crimea, the conducting of the Crimean status referendum and the declaration of Crimea's independence on 16 March 2014.[43][44] Russia formally incorporated Crimea as two federal subjects of the Russian Federation with effect from 18 March 2014.[45]
