Mitch McConnell: Senate must hold trial on Trump if House impeaches
WASHINGTON – Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said the Senate would have "no choice" but to hold a trial on President Donald Trump if the House votes to put forward articles of impeachment.
The Kentucky Republican told CNBC that the obligation to hold a trial is part of Senate rules and it would take a two-thirds vote of the chamber to change that.
"I would have no choice but to take it up a based on a Senate rule on impeachment," McConnell said.

The Senate majority leader comments come days after House speaker Nancy Pelosi announced an impeachment inquiry over whether Trump improperly pressured Ukraine to investigate his political rival, Joe Biden.
