There are some names that are so recognizable that only the first or last name has to be said, and everyone knows who you are talking about; so is the name Tutu. Archbishop Desmond Mpilo Tutu was born on October 7, 1931 in Klerksdorp, Western Transvaal, South Africa.

He was an Anglican Bishop and social rights activists who achieved international recognition for his efforts to fight apartheid and publicize it's cruel dominance in South Africa. Archbishop Tutu received the Nobel Peace prize in 1984 for his fight against apartheid in South Africa.

Archbishop Tutu received the Nobel Peace prize in 1984 for his fight against apartheid in South Africa.
