Democrats v. Republicans or Blacks v. Whites?
So what does that mean?
If a person is a Democrat they generally believe in universal health care, policies that favor the middle class, they believe in a woman's right to choose, etc. So what this poll is indicating is that these people, 27% of the party (or perhaps even more), are willing to toss away their core values and cross party lines. Why? Because Barack Obama didn't pick Hillary Clinton as his running mate? Or was it because he didn't consult with her and thereby in their minds disrespected Clinton?
Is this really about that? Or is there something more insidious behind the mass exodus from the Democratic Party?
I have long felt that the Democratic Party has used the African-American vote, giving us little in return. In fact, it was the Bush policies that saw more of us own our own homes than ever before. It was a Republican who put the second African-American on the Supreme Court, something Clinton had a couple of chances in eight years to do but never did. (Okay, Clarence Thomas may not be a good example for black progression, but you get my point).
The Democratic party has always counted on our vote as long as we stayed in our place. But now that a black man might actually gain the seat, look at what's happening. We saw it during the primaries with the ugly, racially tinged campaigning by the Clintons. And we're seeing it now.
So my ultimate question: Is this really about some perceived diss by Obama against Clinton or are white people (not all, of course), truly not ready to see a black man as president?
Woo! That last sentence is really the issue and the media is trying to cover it up, if you ask me. The media is trying to give white democrates the "out" they need to bow out gracefully. What else could it be. Obama has did everything he needed to do. He did such a great job, that black people are suspicious of his motives.
