Thoughts on our President elect from the mind of a single mother (raising 5 boys)

Thoughts on our President elect from the mind of a single mother (raising 5 boys)
Posted By: TaNisha Gray Juisee Da Queen on November 05, 2008

At the polls in my neighborhood it was kind of a slow process but I'm thankful that I didn't have to experience the waiting times that I heard/read about in the media. It wouldn't have mattered either way I was going to vote if I had to wait 5 hours.
The line wasn't that long but there were only 4 booths for votes to be cast in which made my wait a little over an hour.
The people voting and the people handling the process were all friendly and seemed to be happy to be a part of the event taking place. As for me I was just waiting patiently for my turn to cast my vote knowing that it is time for a change and that the best man would win.

As I sat and watched the event unfold seeing Barack take off with leading numbers my soul smiled. I knew in my heart that we'd done it, we'd finally banned together as a people to have our voices heard and those voices were saying "It's Time For A Change"
When all the numbers were finally in and it was said that Barack had won I was excited beyond words tears welled up in my eyes and I said "Thank you Jesus".

Barack Obama becoming the President means so much more to me than I ever thought possible. As a single mom raising 5 boys, young black males in this society it gives them something to look up to.

Being of low income and living in areas where there aren't many black male role models has been trying and difficult. My sons see the things happening around them with gangs, ****, domestic **** and a number of black on black crimes which they have had to deal with personally as well as just seeing the affects of on a continuing basis. There is rarely any hope that the law enforcement or judicial system will treat anyone fairly where we are so I'm praying to see an enormous change there because low income families matter too and need to be served and protected just as any other family.

I'm praying for change in the hearts and minds of my sons thinking they can achieve anything they put their minds to and realize what I've taught them all along that you don't have to be a product of your environment and you can rise above and do something as well as be something different than what you see on a daily basis.

I'm overwhelmed and overjoyed at this victory and waiting for the change to take place. I know Obama will do what's right because he was sent by God and what God gives no man can take away.

This really is change we can believe in!

Beautiful share from my beautiful sister! My voting experience went rather smoothly. I walked from my house to avoid having parking issues at 5:30am and arrived there around 5:45am. I was number 14 in line before the doors opened at 6:00am .We were informed that there was one booth down before polling began, however by the time the doors were opened all was well. There were four booths and two districts voting. I was done by 6:25am. Hubby and I took note of the weather that eventful morning, that it was beautiful and the dimly lit sky was remarkable. There was something simply surreal about the sky that early morning. The walk to the fire house was refreshing to say the least. Everyone was smiling and talking while sipping on coffee. There were many cultures voting and so many young folks. It was absolutely a wonderful experience. I knew right then in my heart and soul that we were actually claiming VICTORY! GOD made it so.

Thank you so much for sharing your 2008 voting experience with us. I am so ready to embrace change with you my sister.

Love you much!

Amen Sis...
Victory is ours!!!
There was something extra special about the day. I was talking to Emmanuel and brought up the fact that we haven't had weather in the 70's in Nov. in years, it's been cold dang near freezing the past 3-4 years. God is good though it was all a part of the plan, He wanted people to be able to rejoice and enjoy the victory outside comfortably under His roof.

Glad you stopped to tell me about your wonderful experience.

Love Ya!

Hi, TaNisha, I worked the poll yesterday and was so glad that we did not have long lines all of the time. It was start and stop. It was a long 16 hour day but the rewards made the day go by fast. Parents brought their children in to see how the voting process went. Star Bucks gave out free coffee to all who had an "I voted" sticker until we ran our then they were given free coffee on the honor system.

There were some who looked too young to vote, but here in California you do not have to show an iD. There were vans bringing in those from nursing homes and assistance living. there were some who brought their children with them because they could not speak English. How can one feel tired when hearing "thank you for being here so that I could vote".The only down side was not being able to hear how the votes were going as no politics allowed on site. and here we are three hours behind the close of the polls in Fl and Ohio...but it was a great day to already have faith in Obama being the choice of our American voters when they stepped into that voting booth; and to be a member of the Black community...(smile)and thank you for voting my sister.

Now that you have mentioned it, it had rained and windy for about 5 days straight until November 4 and all sunshine and warm.
