I wasn't born until 1981, and Malcolm died before I could ever meet him but I have met him through his speeches, writings and those whom he has influenced. Malcolm X gave his life for living revolution and giving us lessons on what revolution really is. He spoke these words in his book by Alex Haley. Malcolm went against the Uncle Tom leadership in the Black community that make it possible for us to experience injustices by being the stumbling block to our unity.

While Malcolm made moves difficult for many of us to understand (because we all have our own perspectives of how our socially conscious Black leaders should make moves), there are many valuable lessons in Malcolm's life, and it served as the example for thousands of people to clean up their acts, heal their minds and to restore themselves to civilization.

Malcolm did what he had to do, what he was born to do and he will be remembered as a hero in my book. With that said, I’ll take the sum total of the man and his good works because the positives of his life far outshines the negatives. He is and always will be a man regardless to what the naysayers believe.

You have said it all from a generation that was born after the death of Malcolm X almost two decades after the death of AlHajj AbdulMaleek AsShabazz. This is powerful, that you can see The Good, The Bad and The Ugly in the history of Malcolm X. Yours are the future generation who's the actions of Malcolm's was meant for and for you to say that you can look at Malcolm's "positives of his life far outshines the negatives" means that he has reached his purpose in life and for you to see that is truly powerful.

I really don't get it, how a man Robert Powell claims to love and respect one minute, is (according to Robert Powell) a liar and a hypocrite the next? Robert's words read like a man punching his wife in her face and then later on that same man turns around trying to kiss his wife on the very same face he punched her in...it's truly a strange situation.

I give both Malcolm and Al-Hajj Malik El Shabazz props for their contributions in the Nation Of Islam and in the world. All of the Nation Of Islam leaders (Elijah Muhammad, Malcolm X (Al-Hajj Malik El Shabazz), and Minister Farrakhan) have a tremendous influence on my life. I have a lot of love for each of these men regardless of their shortcomings. Malcolm's contributions have never been as widely celebrated as the annual Martin Luther King Jr. national holiday. But they are every bit as important and should be remembered and celebrated in some meaningful way each year.

I wish Malcolm's life wouldn't have ended at such a young age. I really do. I can't even begin to imagine how he would feel if he was alive today to see all the violence and treachery that is talking place in this country today, such as the unjustified murders of black men at the hands of the police, in addition to the numerous crimes black people commit against each other.

Sorry Robert, but the grassroots still love Malcolm and his words and work still resonate and you will not be successful in getting the people by denigrating the good works of Malcolm. I can not in good consciousness negate the good that he built, the example that he laid, how his progressive mind still affects people to this day.

In looking at the history of the NOI between the years of 1933 and 1952 we find that it had an estimated 500 members in total, and had between 4 to 7 small NOI temples (mosques). These included mosques in Detroit, Chicago, Milwaukee, Washington D.C. Cincinatti, Baltimore, and Harlem.

Malcolm X when he joined the NOI, became minister of mosque #7 in Harlem, and was considered in the eyes of the public as the "second in command" in the Nation of Islam organizational structure during the 1950s to early 1960's. Malcolm was called upon to represent our father Elijah Muhammad on a national scale to defend the program.

Malcolm X, in his almost 13 years as a minister of the NOI, worked tirelessly and increased the number of NOI temples from 7 temples in 1952 to 49 temples around the country by 1959. That number of temples expanded greatly due to Malcolm's traveling from state to state introducing thousands of people to the teachings of Elijah Muhammad. Malcolm helped Elijah Muhammad to become a household name, and helped Elijah Muhammad become internationally known by the mid 50's.

In 1959, Elijah Muhammad sent Malcolm on a 3 week trip to Islamic nations of the Middle East and Africa to gauge how Elijah Muhammad would be received there. Malcolm was accompanied by Sister Betty and a small group of Muslims during the 3 week trip. By virtue of Malcolm visiting the aforementioned countries, most likely as a Muslim leader from America, it also made both Elijah Muhammad and Malcolm so well known.

Also, Malcolm X had received "Malik El Shabazz" long before his break with the NOI; I believed Malcolm earned his title and/or position, despite the ending of his relationship with Elijah Muhammad.

Siebra, in the Playboy interview with Alex Haley he says he began using that name because when he was traveling and staying in hotels that name got him due consideration from the hotel clerks, which was not the case with his American name.

That seems to have been in the late 50s, but at least by the time he made Hajj, when he used it on his passport.

In the Name of Allâah,the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

1. Alif-Lâm-Mîm

2. This is AlQur’âan, there is no doubt, a guidance to those who are AlMuttaqûn.

AlMuttaqûn means ----(the pious Believers of Monotheism who fear Allâah and abstain from all kinds of sins and evil deeds which He has forbidden; and love Allâah by performing all kinds of good deeds which He has ordained).

3. Who believe in AlGhaib and perform AsSalât (Iqâmat AsSalât), and spend out of what We have provided for them, give Zakât, spend on themselves, their parents, their children, their wives, and also give charity to the poor and also in the way of Allâah.

4. And who believe in AlQur’âan and AsSunnah which has been revealed to Mohamed and in that which was sent down before you AtTawrât and AlInjeel, and believe with certainty; the Hereafter/Resurrection, recompense, a payment for their good and bad deeds, Paradise or Hell.

135. Jews or Christians say, "to be guided follow us".

Say to them, Mohamed,
"No, we follow only the way of life of Ibrâheem, Hanîfa(Monotheism, to worship none but Allâah, and he was not of AlMushrikûn (those who worshipped others along with Allâah).

136. Muslims, "We believe in Allâah and that which has been sent down to us and that which has been sent down to Ibrâheem, Ismâ‘eel, Ishâaq, Ya‘qûub, and to AlAsbât [the offspring of the twelve sons of Ya‘qûub], and that which has been given to Mûsâ and ‘Îsâ, and that which has been given to the Prophets from Rabaanah.
We make no distinction between any of them, and to Him we have submitted in AlIslâam."

137. So if they believe what you believe, then they are rightly guided; but if they turn away, then they are only in opposition.

So Allâah will suffice you against them. He is the All-Hearer, the All-Knower.

138. Our Sibghah (way of living) is the Sibghah of Allâah and which Sibghah can be better than Allâah’s?
We are His worshippers.

139. Mohamed say to the Jews and Christians,

"You dispute with us about Allâah while He Rabbannaah?

We are to be rewarded for our deeds and you for your deeds.
We are sincere to Him in worship and obedience, we worship Him Only and None else, and we obey His Orders."

140. Or do you say that Ibrâheem, Ismâ‘eel, Ishâaq, Ya‘qûub and Al-Asbât (the offspring of the twelve sons of Ya‘qûub) were Jews or Christians?

Say, "Do you know better or does Allâah know better that they All were Muslims?

Who is more unjust than he who conceals the Oath to believe in Prophet Mohamed when he comes, as is written in their Books, revealed from Allâah?
Allâah Knows what you do."

142. The fools among the people (pagans, hypocrites, and Jews) will say,
"What has turned Muslims from their Qiblah (prayer direction Jerusalem) to which they used to face in prayer."
Say, Mohamed,

"To Allâah belong both, east and the west. He guides whom He wills to the Straight Way."

143. We have made you Muslims, followers of Prophet Mohamed and his Sunnah (legal ways), a just and the best Nation, that you be witnesses over Mankind and the Messenger Mohamed, is a witness over you.
We made the Qiblah (prayer direction towards Jerusalem) which you used to face, only to test those who followed the Messenger Mohamed, from those who would turn at the slightest difficulty and disobey the Messenger.
Indeed it was great test for those who Allâah guided.

Allâah would never make your faith (prayers) to be lost (prayers offered towards Jerusalem).
Allâah is full of Kindness, the Most Merciful towards Mankind.

144. We have seen the turning of your face Mohamed towards the heaven.
Surely, We shall turn you to a Qiblah (prayer direction) that shall please you, so turn your face in the direction of AlMasjid-AlHarâm (at Makkah).

Where ever you are, turn your faces (in prayer) in that direction.
Certainly, the people who were given the Scripture (Jews/Christians) know well that, your turning towards the direction of the Kaa‘bah at Makkah in prayers is the truth Rabbanaah.
Allâah is aware of what they do.

145. Even if you were to bring to the people of the Scripture(Jews/Christians) all the Ayât (proofs, evidence, verses, lessons, signs, revelations), they would not follow your Qiblah (prayer direction), nor are you going to follow their Qiblah (prayer direction).

They will not follow each other’s Qiblah (prayer direction).

If you follow their desires after you have received knowledge from Allâah,
Then truly you will be one of AzZâlimûn (polytheists, pagans, criminals, wrong-doers).
