YOU TOLD ME…I HEARD


You told me that if I read the bible every day
That it would bring me closer to GOD
So you telling me that even when I am being disobedient to him
That I know for sure I will still come out on top?

I heard that if you spare the rod then you spoil the child
And we don’t live in times like that
So when you have bad parenting skills like abandonment & neglect
Who is going to be there to put the rod to your back?

You told me there is no benefit to missing an education
And to make sure I finish school
Do you think
There would be no homeless people, if all of them had of listened to you?

You told me to make sure I vote
To have a say in the community and get heard
Well it didn’t matter cause I did
But Bush cheated and now he rules the world.

Is that the way the world works
Scheming others to come out on top
People living in mediocrity must know this secret
That’s why their plan for success just
Stopped

You told me do as I say
And not as I do
Then you say be about it, not speak about it
So which one of these are you claiming as the truth
Or don’t you know yourself
Unless you really confused
Boy even adults don’t know what the hell to do
So even with bush as our president
You telling me we rightfully screwed!


You told me that Martin Luther King
Had a vision then he foretold a dream
You told me If I escape all the bullcrap the news use to brainwash
Us with
I would be able to see the same thing

I heard that HIV/AIDS is severely wiping
Out the black parts of the streets
So instead we showcase cigarettes- Kool Filter Kings & newports
Like its trendy to have lung cancer as the new disease?

You know I started this poem
With every intent of getting it finished
But last night a brand new city issue
Has just been released unto my attention
We rather choose to face struggles head on
That’s why we go independent
Rather than killing fresh new friendships
To build a profitable business

I heard this rumor about a quick hustle
Uncle Sam & this income tax
How in the heck you don’t work for a whole year
And you getting your whole income tax back?

You told me “with this cash, I be-wed”
I promise to get only what I need
2 days you broke as a joke
can’t show nothing but a burnt out shopping spree

You told me that the green herb is illegal
Is that why you sell blunts in the store?
If all drugs fulfill some sort of purpose for every human being
Then tell me what otc’s and prescriptions
Are really being used for?

You told me we live in the land of the lonestar state
And that we eat to live and not live to eat
Man I think that situation is impossible
Hell look at the polluted air that we breathe
But to test that theory you place a fast food & a liquor store
On every corner that we see!

You told me you wanted to be a rapper
You have what it takes to be on the scene
You don’t hustle, can’t grind right
And you have the nerve to just hate on the winning team?

Man we gossip all doggone day
Instead of promoting negative energy
Man focus on something positive to say!
